Hourly Rn information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Hourly RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Hourly RN, you need a valid nursing license (RN), strong clinical assessment abilities, and up-to-date knowledge of medical procedures. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and standard clinical equipment is typically required. Exceptional time management, adaptability, and clear communication are vital for providing quality care across various shifts and settings. These skills ensure that Hourly RNs can deliver consistent, safe patient care while efficiently adapting to different teams and environments.

What are some common challenges faced by hourly RNs, and how can they effectively manage their time during shifts?

Hourly RNs often face challenges such as balancing high patient loads, adapting to varying shift schedules, and managing time-sensitive tasks across different units. Effective time management is crucial, so prioritizing patient care based on acuity, staying organized with checklists, and communicating proactively with team members can help streamline workflows. Additionally, working hourly may mean frequent handoffs, so clear documentation and thorough shift reports are essential for continuity of care.

What are hourly RNs?

Hourly RNs, or hourly registered nurses, are nursing professionals who are paid by the hour rather than receiving a fixed annual salary. They may work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities, and often have flexible schedules, including part-time, per diem, or temporary shifts. Hourly RNs perform the same duties as salaried RNs, such as patient care, administering medications, and collaborating with healthcare teams, but their compensation is based on the number of hours worked.

Both roles require RN licensure and similar skills, but the employment structure and job stability can differ.

Location: Eastern Oklahoma (territory assigned based on your home location)
Schedule: Full-Time | Flexible Daytime Hours

Join a Team That Values Flexibility, Autonomy, and Purpose

We are a growing Oklahoma-based home health agency expanding our clinical footprint across Eastern Oklahoma. We are seeking a compassionate, self-directed Registered Nurse (RN) who thrives in an autonomous environment and is passionate about delivering relationship-centered care in the home setting.

This role offers flexible daytime scheduling and territory assignments aligned with your home location—helping you maintain work-life balance while minimizing travel time.

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in coordinating and overseeing care for members receiving services through the ADvantage Program. This position focuses on comprehensive assessment, care planning, and ongoing case management to ensure members receive safe, effective, and individualized care in their homes.

You will collaborate closely with members, families, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and optimal outcomes.

What We Offer
  • Mileage reimbursement ($0.46 per mile)
  • Flexible daytime schedule — no nights or 12-hour hospital shifts
  • Territory assignments designed to reduce drive time
  • Supportive and accessible leadership team
  • Growth opportunities within an expanding organization
  • Comprehensive benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision)
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Life and supplemental insurance options
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive in-home assessments, including functional and cognitive evaluations
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care/service plans
  • Coordinate services with healthcare providers, community resources, and support systems
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed
  • Educate members and families on disease management, safety, and available resources
  • Monitor changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in accordance with agency and program requirements
  • Participate in care coordination meetings and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Support care transitions and discharge planning when appropriate
  • Maintain compliance with Oklahoma ADvantage and Medicaid (MSU) guidelines
Qualifications
  • Active and unrestricted Oklahoma Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Current BLS certification
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Knowledge of community resources and care coordination practices preferred
  • Familiarity with ADvantage / MSU guidelines preferred, but not required
What Makes You a Great Fit
  • You value autonomy but also appreciate a supportive team
  • You are organized, detail-oriented, and clinically confident
  • You are passionate about keeping patients safe and independent at home
  • You thrive in a role that blends clinical care with coordination and advocacy
