Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary:
The Career Management Graduate Assistant on the Career Management Team is for graduate students interested in supporting Villanova's current graduate students with their career and professional development needs. This role is geared towards graduate students pursuing a Master's Degree in Counseling, Human Resources, or Higher Education, though we encourage all applicants with relevant experience and interests to apply. This graduate student position is a paid role for 10 hours per week for the academic year. Successful graduate assistants are those who have strong coaching/interpersonal skills, an ability to work independently and take initiative, an interest in career and professional development, and a passion for helping others.
The Graduate Assistant will be involved with all graduate student support aspects of the Career Management Team, with a strong emphasis on delivering 1:1 graduate student career coaching appointments. The Graduate Assistant will enhance their competencies in advising and presentation skills, awareness of the career management process, and knowledge of higher education administration, career planning, and the recruiting field.
*Personal counseling or long-term therapy is not a component of this experience. This graduate assistantship is not eligible to fulfill internship/practicum requirements for Counseling graduate programs.
Duties include:
Meet with graduate students in one-on-one career and professional development-related appointments. Advise and coach graduate students on resume/cover letter building, job search strategies, professional readiness, career decision-making, and interview preparation.
• Conduct skill-building workshops and presentations on topics such as resume writing, interviewing, and LinkedIn.
• Develop a strong working knowledge of the Handshake career management system, Nova Network, Career Connections, and other Career Center resources.
• Curate content for the Career Connections website and assist the Career Management Team with special projects.
• Assist in promoting and sourcing events for the GradADVANCE professional development program.
Other potential duties: Aid in the execution of career fairs, employer events, and additional Career Center and Career Management programming and events. Assist with on-campus recruiting, placement activities, and marketing campaigns as needed.
The Career Center is a dynamic office providing career development and career management assistance to undergraduate students, graduate students, College of Professional Studies Students, and alumni. We also offer a comprehensive suite of services for employers who recruit at Villanova University. Over 2,000 students and alumni make appointments with the Career Center during the academic year. 300+ employers recruit students on campus from September to April. The office hosts or co-hosts various career programs throughout the year. The staff consists of 20+ professionals.
Requirements:
  • Must be a Villanova University graduate student enrolled in a Master's Degree in Counseling, Human Resources, or Higher Education or have relevant experience in career/student advising.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working one-on-one with students as well as presenting to groups.

Additional Information:
This is an hourly positionand does not offer tuition remission.
Personal counseling, supervision hours, or long-term therapy is not a component of this experience.
