Job description

About Data Society:
At Data Society, we provide bespoke, leading-edge data and AI solutions for Fortune 1,000 companies and federal, state, and local governmental organizations. We partner with our clients to educate, equip, and empower their workforces with the skills they need to achieve their goals and expand their impact. We are empowering the workforces of the future, from data literacy for all employees to support for data engineers and data scientists to train up on the most complex AI solutions and Machine Learning skills.
About the role:
The Power BI Developer helps organizations better understand their data and needs through skilled requirements engineering, strong data modeling practices, and hands-on analytics. This role focuses on designing and building Power BI reports and dashboards, working comfortably within the Azure ecosystem, and querying and analyzing data primarily using Snowflake SQL to extract insights and support decision-making. The analyst will support ETL and data pipeline efforts, work closely with data stored in the data lake and Snowflake, and ensure data is well-documented and governed through ERDs, data dictionaries, and relevant tools. This is a customer-facing role within a cross-functional team, so the ability to manage timelines, work both autonomously and collaboratively, and communicate effectively are a must.

This is a full-time remote/telecommute Contract position available now until August 2026 with the potential to transition to full-time employment then.

Note: Due to the confidential nature of our federal government Clients, this role requires the ability to pass a United States federal government Public Trust background check and is exclusively open to U.S. Citizens located within the United States. Our Clients are also located in DC and may require an on-site presence from time to time.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop Power BI reports and dashboards that provide meaningful insights and support decision-making
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses using Snowflake SQL and BI tools to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights
  • Build, enhance, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards, ensuring performance, usability, and consistency
  • Support ETL processes and data pipelines within Azure to ensure reliable, well-structured data for reporting and analytics
  • Work closely with Azure data services, including the data lake, to understand data ingestion, storage, and transformations
  • Create and maintain ERDs and data dictionaries to document data structures, relationships, and business definitions
  • Serve as an expert in gathering actionable requirements and executing against them in an agile environment
  • Support data governance, cataloging, lineage, and metadata management
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, understand reporting needs, and translate them into effective data solutions
  • Become deeply familiar with all relevant data sources used in projects, including where data is stored, associated data dictionaries, and dependencies
  • Investigate and assess existing reports with the ability to convert them into Power BI dashboards or enhance them as needed
  • Define and develop metrics to measure operational health and excellence across organizations and initiatives
  •  Maintain and improve the integrity and reliability of internal and external data sources; collaborate with stakeholders to capture additional data and ensure accuracy and consistency
  •  Regularly prepare reports and presentations that summarize findings, provide actionable insights, and track the impact of implemented strategies
  • Effectively communicate insights and recommendations to influence decision-making and drive growth

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of data and analytics in cloud environments
  • Advanced proficiency with Snowflake
  • Advanced proficiency with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and report optimization
  • Experience working within the Azure ecosystem
  • Experience creating ERDs, data dictionaries, and supporting data governance efforts
  • Experience working in Agile / Scrum development processes
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with non-technical teams
  • Proactive self-starter who takes ownership of tasks and drives work forward with minimal oversight
  • Experience working in Agile / Scrum development processes
