What is an hourly rate for a job?

An hourly rate is the amount of money a worker earns for each hour they perform their job. It is commonly used for part-time, temporary, or contract positions, and is calculated by multiplying the number of hours worked by the agreed-upon rate. The hourly rate can vary widely depending on the industry, job role, location, and the worker’s experience. Employers may also be required to pay overtime for hours worked beyond a standard workweek, as mandated by local labor laws.

How are hourly rate adjustments typically handled for positions paid on an hourly basis?

Hourly rate adjustments are often reviewed annually or biannually and are based on factors such as job performance, market rates, and changes in job responsibilities. Many organizations conduct performance evaluations and use those assessments to determine if an increase is warranted. Additionally, cost-of-living adjustments or company-wide pay scale reviews may also impact hourly rates. It's helpful to ask about the review process and typical timelines during the interview to understand what to expect.
