The Equipment Operator - Overburden Removal is responsible for safely and efficiently removing soil, rock, and other materials that overlay limestone reserves within the quarry. This role operates multiple types of heavy equipment, such as, excavators, dozer, haul trucks, loaders and scrapers to support production goals, maintain proper pit geometry, and ensure that overburden stripping activities follow the mine plan. The operator plays a key role in maintaining a safe work environment while supporting overall site efficiency and compliance.
Essential Functions
  • Operate, service, and maintain various heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, haul trucks, loaders and scrapers to remove overburden according to plan
  • Maintain proper bench heights, slopes, and pit geometry as directed by supervisors or mine planners
  • Load haul trucks efficiently while minimizing oversize, spillage, and cycle delays
  • Responsible for fueling, oiling, greasing equipment as well as understanding the equipment's safety manual
  • Perform pre-shift and end of shift checks and maintenance on equipment
  • Follow all MSHA, company, and site-specific safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain clean, stable work areas with proper berms, traffic control, and visibility
  • Report hazards, near misses, equipment issues, and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training
  • Understand and follow all policies, procedures, and safety rules as applicable to facility, job function and equipment
  • Ability to travel to other sites in the area as needed
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company's core values, competencies, and skills.
Education Qualifications
  • Required High School or Equivalent

Experience Qualifications
  • Preferred 3+ years overburden removal operations or
  • Preferred 3+ years heavy equipment operations

Skills and Abilities
  • Must maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance
  • Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule
  • Read, write, and communicate in English & understand basic math
  • Working knowledge of US Aggregates Safety and Operating principles
  • Complete all applicable documentation, recordkeeping, and daily inventory
  • Participate in safety briefings, job briefings, and any other pass on information from team members, management, or customer
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction and follow work rules, as well as take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned
  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Must possess and exhibit excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently to get things done

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • Must have the ability to continuously stand or walk on level or uneven ground
  • Must have the ability to ascend and descend ladders and stairs
  • Must have the ability to bend, crouch and/or kneel at the waist or knees
  • Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up at least 50lbs
  • Ability to work outside the majority of the time and withstand extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather
