Job Summary:
The College of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/part-time Adjunct Instructor. The successful candidate will:
  • Teach and/or supervise students in clinical specialty areas (Medical-Surgical, Pediatric, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Mental/Behavioral Health, and Community Health Nursing).
  • Orient students to the patient care unit, hospital/agency policies, procedures, and appropriate patient record and documentation systems.
  • Conduct clinical pre and post conferences with students to the specific roles and responsibilities; assign students to patients, review clinical objectives and criteria with students and assign students to interpersonal case presentations.
  • Provide and guide students as it relates to the College of Nursing clinical policies; evaluate students clinical performance and submit these to the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Communicate with the Clinical Coordinator, Program Director(s), Director of Clinical Services and Associate Dean for Transformational Education.

Required Qualifications:
  • New York State Registered Nurse and/or Nurse Practitioner License.
  • Master's Degree.
  • 2 to 4 years of continuous clinical nursing experience in area of specialization, including Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing or a related field, with scholarly activities.
  • Graduate level teaching experience, and a record of research and scholarship commensurate with academic rank.
