Key Holder / Key Carrier
Reports To: Store Manager / Assistant Store Manager
Position Type: Hourly, Full-Time or Part-Time
Position Summary
The Key Carrier is responsible for opening and/or closing the store according to schedule and directing store operations in the absence of store and assistant management. This role blends standard hardware sales duties with administrative tasks, cash handling, and supervisory responsibility to ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming shopping environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manager on Duty (MOD) Responsibilities:
    • Serving as the primary supervisor on the floor when the Store Manager is absent.
    • Providing register overrides, handling complex customer returns, and resolving customer complaints.
  • General Store Operations:
    • Assisting customers across all major hardware departments using Ace’s standard service model.
    • Operating the Point of Sale (POS) system and processing transactions quickly and accurately.
    • Assisting with inventory controls, stocking shelves, and updating price tags or plan-o-grams.
Qualifications amp; Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of retail key carrier experience.
  • Skills: Strong communication, basic math proficiency for cash handling, and basic computer/POS literacy.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 40–50 lbs regularly, and perform tasks like climbing ladders or operating key-cutting machines.
  • Availability: Must have open flexibility to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays according to store scheduling needs.
