Job Summary
Maryvale Elementary School is seeking an energetic, creative, and dependable After-School Dance Club Teacher to lead an engaging dance enrichment program for elementary students. The Dance Club provides students with a fun, supportive environment where they explore various styles of dance while learning the history, culture, and purpose behind each style. The ideal candidate will foster confidence, teamwork, creativity, and school spirit while preparing students for performances throughout the school year.
The instructor will teach age-appropriate dance fundamentals and basic dance theory, helping students understand not only how to perform movements, but why they are important. Lessons should gradually build students' technical abilities while preparing them for performances throughout the school year.
This position requires a commitment to building students' dance skills, encouraging positive character development, and creating memorable experiences through performances both at school and within the community.
Program Hours: Monday - Thursday | 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Staff arrival and set up time- 3:40pm
Essential Job Functions
Dance Instruction
  • Plan and facilitate engaging dance lessons for students in grades 2-5.
  • Teach a variety of dance styles, which may include:
  • Cheer
  • Pom
  • Hip-Hop
  • Jazz
  • Contemporary
  • Cultural and traditional dances
  • Line dancing and other age-appropriate styles
  • Introduce students to the history and cultural significance of various dance styles.
  • Teach proper stretching, warm-ups, dance technique, choreography, rhythm, coordination, and performance skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet students' varying skill levels.

Student Development
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where every student feels successful.
  • Promote teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, respect, and self-confidence.
  • Reinforce positive behavior and character-building throughout all activities.
  • Encourage creativity and student participation in choreography when appropriate.

Homework Club Support
  • One day each week, students will participate in Homework Club.
  • Supervise and assist students with completing homework assignments.
  • Provide a structured, quiet environment that supports academic success before or during club activities.

Performances & Community Engagement
  • Prepare students for performances at:
    • School assemblies
    • Family engagement events
    • International Night
    • School spirit events
    • Promotion ceremonies
    • Community festivals
    • Other approved school and community events
  • Actively identify and coordinate opportunities within the community for students to perform, working collaboratively with the Community School Coordinator and school administration.

Program Planning
  • Develop weekly lesson plans aligned with program goals.
  • Maintain attendance records and communicate student progress as requested.
  • Ensure all activities are safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
  • Assist with end-of-program performances and celebrations.

Qualifications
  • Experience working with school aged youth/children (ages 6-12)
  • Experience teaching dance to children in elementary or youth settings or other age groups.
  • Proficient Knowledge of multiple dance styles and age-appropriate choreography.
  • Ability to teach dance fundamentals and choreography to medium to large groups while making learning enjoyable.
  • Strong classroom management and positive behavior support skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, and inspire students.
  • Experience preparing groups for performances is preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).
  • Must successfully complete all required background clearances.
