High School Band Leader
Salary: Contractual Stipend
The Band Leader serves as the primary instructional, artistic, and administrative leader for the instrumental music program. This position directs all band ensembles and activities while ensuring alignment with the Allentown School District mission and vision. The Band Leader fosters a high-quality, inclusive, and engaging music program that supports student achievement and growth.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in teaching instrumental music.
  • Prior experience as a director or assistant director of a school music program is preferred.
  • Proven ability to conduct and lead large and small instrumental ensembles.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse students, staff, and community members.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct various instrumental groups, including marching band, concert band, jazz band, orchestras, and small ensembles/soloists.
  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and individual instruction to help them achieve their potential in musical skill and intellectual, emotional, and social growth.
  • Participate in local festivals and parades, as requested.
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of plans that fulfill the district's instrumental music curriculum requirements in alignment with ASD and Pennsylvania State Standards.
  • Direct and supervise practices and rehearsals, including after-school practices and summer camp.
  • Select and prepare appropriate, diverse, and high-quality musical repertoire for all performances.
  • Rehearse and prepare marching band to perform at all varsity football games and athletic pep rallies.
  • Prepare students for district, regional, and state music festivals, competitions, and auditions.
  • Coordinate and schedule all rehearsals, sectionals, and performances, including evening and weekend events.
  • Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all district-owned instruments, sheet music, equipment, and supplies. Oversee the maintenance, repair, and proper storage of all assets.
  • Work closely with middle school and elementary school instructors to recruit and retain students into the music program.
  • Provide guidance and support to assistant band leader, staff, and volunteers.
  • Establish and maintain open, professional, and cooperative communication with students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
  • Oversee band booster club and support all band booster activities and fundraising events.
  • Conduct at least one week of band camp during the summer.
  • Supervise students at all times, ensuring a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Uphold and enforce all Allentown School District policies and administrative regulations.
