CredentialsKnowledge of billing software, industry regulations, and basic accounting
Work EnvironmentOffice setting, often with logistics or transportation companies

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an hourly freight billing specialist?

To thrive as an Hourly Freight Billing specialist, you need strong attention to detail, proficiency in billing procedures, and a good understanding of freight or logistics operations, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Maintaining strong attention to detail and staying organized with digital tracking tools are key strategies for managing these challenges. Additionally, adapting to evolving software systems and regulatory requirements is essential for success in this field.

What is hourly freight billing?

Hourly freight billing is a method used by transportation and logistics companies to charge customers based on the number of hours a freight service is provided, rather than by distance or weight. This billing method is common for certain types of freight moves, such as local deliveries, truck rentals with drivers, or situations where loading and unloading times may vary. It allows for greater flexibility, especially when the total time spent on a job is unpredictable. Customers are billed for the actual hours the freight service is used, which can help align costs more closely with service delivered.
