Statkraft

Casar, NC • Hybrid

Job description

Company Description

Statkraft has been making clean energy possible for over a century. That's what we offer. 125 years of unrivalled expertise in supplying the world with what it needs most. We envision a world that runs entirely on renewable energy. Because in the fight against climate change, we don't see renewable energy as part of the solution - we believe it must be the solution. With us, you'll shape a career that is truly forward-facing with many amazing opportunities and offerings to match.

But there's more work to be done - that's why we need you to join us.

Working in Energy Management:

Providing power efficiently and reliably is among the core challenges in times of increasing solar and wind energy production. Here, our intraday trading teams are making a vital and exciting contribution, executing the day-to-day market activities and optimization for Statkraft's Origination activities as well as owned assets. Origination and Energy Management work closely together, combining commercial origination expertise with 24/7 optimisation capabilities to deliver strong customer outcomes across the full deal lifecycle.
We are active in all relevant short-term markets on the Continent and the UK, integrating renewables and flexibility in a highly commercial manner. In total, Statkraft manages over 10.000 MW of renewable capacity across Europe, optimizes thousands of decentralized flexible assets with an installed capacity of several thousand MW. We leverage flexibility and storage solutions and thus contribute significantly to the successful integration of renewable energy into the overall energy landscape. We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year supported by a high degree of automation.

What we do?

With Statkraft's energy management teams, we are responsible for balancing the entire portfolio of intermittent generation, dispatching our flexible asset portfolio and trading energy proprietarily on the short-term markets. Our dispatchers and traders take active decisions through manual trading, supervise automated trading applications on several short-term markets and oversee optimisation across many European power markets. With the team working 24/7, this position is key interface to our internal stakeholders at the power production sites as well as transmission system operators in the control rooms. We operate critical infrastructure, meaning we always act diligently and prudently and thus maintain a healthy balance between short term profits and long-term business sustainability.

Spain is a core growth market for Statkraft, combining large-scale renewable generation and storage with an integrated Markets and Origination platform. Today, Statkraft operates a total portfolio of >2.5 GW of own and third-party assets in Spain and has a development pipeline of >3 GW across renewables and BESS.

We were an early mover in the Iberian long-term PPA market and have established ourselves as Spain's largest long-term power trader. Over the coming years, we plan to repeat our success in renewable PPAs in flexibility offtake agreements for third parties, thereby further significantly scaling our customer business.

Job Description

Energy markets are becoming more complex, more volatile and more data driven. Success increasingly depends on real time optimisation and the smart use of flexibility from renewables and battery storage flexibility to maximise value creation. Statkraft is expanding into short-term trading and BESS optimisation in Spain, supported by strong collaboration across Statkraft's European market organisation.

As Head of Intraday Spain, you will be responsible for building, leading, and operating Statkraft's Intraday trading and dispatch setup for Spain from our Madrid office. You will head a newly, to be established, 24/7 Intraday and dispatch team, ensuring value-maximising, safe and reliable execution of our Iberian power portfolio, while acting as a key interface between local operations and Statkraft's continental Energy Management organisation. Thinking holistically, you actively seek standardization and harmonisation across all Intraday trading desks and its interfaces, such as day-ahead optimisation, algorithmic trading, flexibility trading and optimisation and daily market operations team.

This is a senior leadership role combining operational authority, people leadership, and strategic development in a fastgrowing and increasingly complex market. In this role you will drive our ambitious commercial and operational targets forward. You will represent Continental Energy Management towards major stakeholders, such as Origination and Market Risk internally, as well as externally towards transmission system operators or regulators. You will help build the flexibility business , being of a high performing, international environment where technology, analytics and commercial judgement come together to unlock value from renewable and flexible portfolios.

For professionals who want responsibility, growth and proactively shape and drive the business forward in the energy transition, Statkraft in Madrid is a compelling next step. In this role you will have following responsibilities:

  • Build, lead, and develop a 24/7 Intraday and dispatch team (control centre) based in Madrid.
  • Hold endtoend responsibility for Intraday trading and dispatch operations in Spain, including shift organisation and operational decisionmaking

  • Drive continuous improvement of Intraday trading strategies, dispatch quality, and operational workflows.
Qualifications

We are explicitly looking for an experienced external leader who brings deep, handson intraday and dispatch expertise and can help us professionalise, stabilise, and scale Spanish short-term operations. This role is not about learning an existing setup, it is about building one and setting standards others will follow. You bring:

  • Extensive experience, minimum 8+ years, in short-term power trading, Intraday trading, or dispatch operations, preferably in a leading European energy trading house, utility, or trading desk.
