How much do honeywell contractor jobs pay per hour?
What is a Honeywell contractor?
A Honeywell Contractor is an independent professional or worker hired by Honeywell on a contractual basis to perform specialized tasks. These roles can range from engineering and technical support to project management and field services. Contractors typically work on short-term or long-term assignments, depending on project needs. They may not receive the same benefits as full-time employees but gain flexibility and experience working with Honeywell's cutting-edge technologies.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Honeywell contractor?
To thrive as a Honeywell Contractor, you should possess specialized technical knowledge in your field, a proven track record of relevant experience, and the appropriate educational background, such as a degree or certification in engineering, HVAC, controls, or automation. Familiarity with Honeywell's product lines, building management systems, and software platforms like Niagara or other industry-standard tools is typically required. Strong communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills set top candidates apart, as they often interact with clients and cross-functional teams in dynamic environments. Mastering both technical and interpersonal skills ensures project success, client satisfaction, and effective collaboration within Honeywell’s standards.
What can I expect from the typical work environment as a Honeywell contractor?
As a Honeywell Contractor, you will often work on-site at client facilities, performing equipment installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or system upgrades related to Honeywell solutions. The work environment is usually fast-paced and project-driven, with frequent collaboration alongside engineering teams, project managers, or client representatives. You may need to travel between job sites depending on project assignments and client locations. Safety protocols and industry compliance are a top priority, so you'll be expected to adhere to strict standards while balancing technical tasks and client communication. This dynamic environment provides valuable hands-on experience and room for professional growth in the field.

Job description
Honeywell Building Solutions is seeking a Senior Project Developer for a sales and commission-based role to originate, qualify, structure, and advance Solar PV, battery energy storage system (BESS), microgrid, combined heat and power, central utility plant, and other distributed energy resource (DER) projects across the United States.
This role leads complex energy infrastructure opportunities from customer engagement through feasibility, investment approval, contracting, notice to proceed, and transition to execution. The successful candidate will combine commercial leadership with technical, financial, regulatory, and project-development expertise to deliver projects that are technically feasible, financially attractive, contractually sound, and executable.
Customers may include commercial and industrial clients, utilities, public-sector entities, federal agencies, data centers, healthcare systems, universities, municipalities, institutional clients, and other large energy users.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Project Origination & Market Development
• Identify and originate Solar PV, BESS, microgrid, resiliency, demand-management, and DER opportunities across priority U.S. markets.
• Develop relationships with utilities, C&I customers, public-sector and institutional clients, federal agencies, data centers, landowners, engineering firms, contractors, equipment providers, and financial partners.
• Evaluate markets using electricity costs, utility programs, grid constraints, renewable policies, capacity needs, resiliency requirements, incentives, tax benefits, and customer demand.
• Build a qualified development pipeline aligned with Honeywell strategy and support account teams in expanding customer relationships into broader energy and infrastructure opportunities.
• Represent Honeywell in customer meetings, industry events, utility discussions, partner negotiations, and market-development activities.
Project Qualification & Development
• Lead opportunity screening, including customer credit, load profiles, tariffs, site conditions, permitting, interconnection, economics, schedule, and competitive position.
• Coordinate site assessments and technical due diligence for rooftop, ground-mount, carport, behind-the-meter, front-of-the-meter, and utility-interconnected projects.
• Define scope, development strategy, commercial structure, schedule, roles, critical-path activities, assumptions, exclusions, customer responsibilities, utility dependencies, and decision points.
• Advance opportunities through Honeywell stage-gate reviews from initial qualification through investment approval, contracting, notice to proceed, and handoff to execution teams.
Technical Development
• Coordinate conceptual designs, energy models, equipment configurations, single-line diagrams, layouts, preliminary estimates, operating strategies, and lifecycle replacement plans.
• Evaluate technology alternatives and configurations for Solar PV, BESS, microgrids, DERMS, CHP, central utility plants, backup generation, demand response, EV charging, grid support, resiliency, and efficiency measures.
• Review Solar PV production, BESS dispatch, peak reduction, utility savings, resiliency requirements, revenue stacking, guarantees, availability, degradation, warranties, and long-term service needs.
• Assess interconnection requirements, grid constraints, protection, metering, utility upgrade costs, constructability, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and facility integration.
Financial, Commercial & Contract Structuring
• Develop and review financial models addressing costs, savings, utility revenues, incentives, tax benefits, debt service, cash flow, ROI, NPV, IRR, payback, margin, contingency, escalation, and long-term obligations.
• Evaluate customer-owned, Honeywell-owned, third-party-owned, energy-as-a-service, power purchase agreement, shared-savings, lease, and other structured-finance alternatives.
• Collaborate with finance teams to structure debt, equity, tax equity, direct pay, investment tax credit transfer, and other funding mechanisms.
• Prepare investment memoranda, executive summaries, proposals, pricing strategies, and approval packages aligned with scope, schedule, risk allocation, and Honeywell contracting requirements.
• Support negotiations involving development agreements, LOIs, MOUs, PPAs, energy services agreements, EPC agreements, leases, site-control, interconnection, and O&M agreements.
Utility, Regulatory & Incentive Management
• Coordinate interconnection applications, feasibility and system-impact studies, facilities studies, service agreements, upgrade requirements, utility programs, and tariff analyses.
• Evaluate federal, state, utility, and local incentives, including RECs, capacity programs, demand response, storage incentives, tax credits, grants, and public-sector funding.
• Monitor tariffs, market rules, interconnection standards, permitting, incentives, DER regulations, wholesale opportunities, capacity markets, ancillary services, and demand response.
• Partner with regulatory, legal, engineering, and external advisory teams to address project-specific compliance requirements.
Proposal, Cross-Functional Leadership & Risk Management
• Lead or support customer RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, competitive solicitations, commercial proposals, executive reviews, investment approvals, negotiations, and final contract development.
• Serve as development leader for assigned opportunities, establishing roles, deliverables, schedules, decision points, and accountability across internal, subcontractor, and partner teams.
• Maintain consistency between proposal commitments, technical designs, subcontractor pricing, financial models, contract terms, execution assumptions, and customer communications.
• Identify, price, and mitigate risks related to site control, permitting, interconnection, environmental and geotechnical conditions, utility upgrades, equipment availability, pricing, schedule, credit, regulation, financing, cybersecurity, safety, quality, performance, and execution readiness.
• Maintain pipeline data, budgets, milestones, probabilities, risks, forecasts, updates, and decision-support materials; manage development spend and pursue appropriate cost-recovery strategies.
Project Transition
• Provide transition packages after award or notice to proceed, including customer commitments, scope, financial model, pricing assumptions, schedule, utility requirements, permitting status, partner commitments, risks, and customer responsibilities.
• Support post-award kickoff, mobilization, issue resolution, scope clarification, change management, and customer communications during early execution.
Qualifications
Must Haves
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business, Finance, Construction Management, Energy, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in renewable energy, distributed energy, energy infrastructure, utility programs, energy services, or project development.
• Demonstrated experience developing Solar PV and BESS projects in the United States, including BTM, FTM, utility, C&I, institutional, or public-sector projects.
• Proven ability to lead projects from origination and feasibility through commercial negotiation, contracting, investment approval, and transition to execution.
• Strong understanding of project economics, financial modeling, project finance, tariffs, incentives, interconnection, permitting, EPC pricing, structured finance, and risk allocation.
• Experience negotiating or supporting PPAs, energy services agreements, development agreements, EPC agreements, interconnection agreements, leases, site-control agreements, or similar commercial contracts.
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams without direct authority and communicate technical and financial concepts clearly to customers, executives, engineers, contractors, utilities, and financial stakeholders.
• Strong customer-facing communication, presentation, negotiation, relationship-management, organizational, analytical, and execution skills; ability to manage multiple complex opportunities.
• Ability to travel up-to 50%
Preferred Qualifications
• Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Energy, or a related discipline; established relationships in U.S. renewable-energy, utility, energy-services, or DER markets.
• Experience with microgrids, DERMS, CHP, central utility plants, energy-as-a-service, performance contracting, utility-owned DER programs, wholesale electricity markets, capacity markets, ancillary services, demand response, peak-load management, or energy arbitrage.
• Experience with utilities, independent system operators, regional transmission organizations, federal agencies, municipalities, universities, healthcare systems, data centers, and large commercial or industrial customers.
• Knowledge of ITCs, domestic content, energy-community benefits, direct pay, tax-credit transfers, accelerated depreciation, RECs, state incentives, IEEE 1547, UL standards, BESS degradation, augmentation, warranties, LTSA, and revenue stacking.
• Experience with project acquisitions, development-stage asset purchases, joint ventures, strategic partnerships, internal rate of return, net present value, debt-service coverage ratio, weighted average cost of capital, and sensitivity analysis.
The salary range for this position is ($140000-160000). The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
