Job description

Join our team at the Renaissance Baltimore Harbor Place as our Assistant Chief Engineer. The hotel assistant chief engineer assists the Director of Engineering in managing a hotel's maintenance operations, physical assets, and infrastructure.


Key responsibilities include supervising engineering staff, executing preventive maintenance programs, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and resolving guest repair requests. They also help manage budgets and serve as the head of the department in the Chief Engineer's absence.

Compensation:

$80,000 - $90,000 yearly


Responsibilities:

Property Operations & Maintenance

  • Manage the physical plant, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration systems.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs to protect the hotel's long-term assets.
  • Distribute, monitor, and prioritize daily work orders and guest repair requests.
  • Inspect guest rooms, public spaces, and building exteriors to proactively identify maintenance needs.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Supervise, schedule, and mentor engineering staff members.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and service-oriented team culture.
  • Act as the lead for the engineering department in the absence of the Chief Engineer.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain 100% operational readiness for all life safety systems (e.g., fire alarms, sprinklers, and emergency generators).
  • Ensure all building operations comply with federal, state, and local safety codes.
  • Manage and maintain accurate logs for maintenance, compliance, and energy audits.

Budget & Administrative Duties

  • Assist with departmental budget management and expense tracking.
  • Administer service contracts and coordinate with outside vendors and contractors.
  • Implement energy conservation initiatives to help control utility costs.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 to 7 years in facilities maintenance, building operations, or related trades, with previous supervisory experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • Industry Knowledge: Hands-on experience working in a hotel or hospitality environment.
  • Certifications: Certifications such as a Universal CFC, Fire Safety Director, or HVAC licenses are frequently required based on location.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
