Job description

The OR Scheduling Secretary demonstrates responsibility and accountability for clerical support in the Operating Room area.


Functions in a secretarial position, answering phones for surgery scheduling, accurately schedules patients for the Operating Room and GI Lab. Maintains all OR records including patient charges and OR Log. All records are accurate and current. Secretary maintains accurate order entry transmission of physician’s orders to ancillary departments. Communicates with Clinical Coordinator regarding the OR schedule and messages, communicates with physicians and offices as directed. Works under the direction of a licensed nurse.


High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred. Past experience in a hospital setting and/or completion of an accepted training program. Knowledge of medical terminology. Current Basic Life Support Level C (Healthcare Provider) certification. Basic computer literacy. Ability to exercise telephone etiquette.
