Hospital Risk Management and Hospital Compliance Officer roles both operate within healthcare environments but focus on different aspects. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Risk Manager has the broad responsibility for the protection of of hospital
assets. The Risk Manager is responsible for advising management on all
potential sources of loss and making decisions on how to best minimize or
eliminate loss. The Risk Manager is responsible for planning, developing and
maintaining an internal Risk Management Program of loss prevention and
claims control to meet the needs of the hospital, utilizing knowledge of
industrial safety-related engineering discipline and operating regulations
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the development and administration of the Hospital Risk
Management Program.
Implements a Risk Identification System for acquisition, organization of
information, data analysis and documentation.
Develops and recommends new procedures and approaches to safety and
loss prevention based on reports of incidents, accidents, and other data
gathered from hospital personnel.
Disseminates information to department heads and others regarding toxic
substances, hazards, carcinogens, and other safety information.
Assists department heads and administrators in enforcing safety regulations
and codes.
Measures and evaluates effectiveness of safety program, using established
goals.
Conducts building and grounds surveys on periodic and regular basis to
detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and
procedures.
Analyzes patient grievances which relate to patient care and the quality of
medical care and services.
Develops and implements an incident reporting system to collect all
reports of incidents on adverse events.
Implements methods of correcting, reducing and eliminating identifiable
risks.
Investigation of alleged sexual misconduct against staff members.
Submits annual report of incidents to AHCA as required by State statutes.
Submits serious incidents to AHCA as required by State statutes.
Provides written reports to the Governing Board at least quarterly,
summarizing all incidents that affect the quality of patient care, safety
of personnel, visitors or the financial assets of the facility.
Coordinates Risk Management training program on new hires and annual
employees.
Coordinates hospital-wide safety/security program.
Ensures compliance with guidelines and standards of the AOA, Federal,
State and local regulatory agencies as indicated.
Researches legal solutions to the professional liability and hospital liability
questions posed by hospital physicians, nurses, and other personnel.
Represents the hospital on advise of legal counsel and as requested by the
Chief Executive officer to respond to subpoenas and appear for
hearings and trials.
Assists administrative, medical and departmental personnel in the
development of policies and procedures that reflect risk management
techniques.
Develops and reviews safety training for hospital staff.
Maintains administrative control of records related to safety and health
programs.
Prepares and disseminates memos and reports.
Maintains required records.
Assists personnel department in administering worker compensation
program.
Performs other assigned duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or Health Care related field with a
minimum of two years experience in Risk Management.
Certification as a Health Care Risk Manager recommended
Job Knowledge:
Demonstrates current knowledge of principles and practices of Risk
Management. Knowledge of local, state and federal legislation.
