Job description

Position Summary

The System Director of Lab is responsible for all diagnostic laboratory testing and related services for inpatients, outpatients, and outreach clients across the Hudson Health System. This includes oversight of services at all system facilities.


Job Duties

 

  • Develop strategic direction for laboratory services aligned with the goals of Hudson Health System.
  • Ensure quality, operational integrity, and cost-effectiveness of laboratory operations across all sites.
  • Maintain full regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA, FDA, and state requirements).
  • Enhance laboratory support for clinical programs and value-based care initiatives.
  • Oversee daily operations including staffing, budgeting, quality assurance, technical processes, chemical hygiene, and safety programs.
  • Drive innovation in test menu development and lab service delivery.
  • Ensure integration of laboratory systems with physician, nursing, IT, and materials management teams.
  • Build cross-campus operational workgroups to standardize processes and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Oversee vendor relations, equipment acquisition, and lab formulary development.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and lead quality improvement efforts.
  • Serve as a senior leader within Hudson Health System, collaborating with the CMO, COO, and other hospital executives.
  • Act as liaison to laboratory medical directors and pathologists.
  • Develop and coach laboratory leadership teams across all campuses.
  • Champion a culture of transparency, accountability, service excellence, and innovation.
  • Represent lab services in system-level strategy and planning meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure Requirements

 

  • Master’s degree in clinical laboratory science, Medical Technology, or related field required, PhD, DSc. (Preferred.)
  • Current state licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist and national certification (ASCP, NCA, or AMT) (Required.)
  • Advanced certification in healthcare administration (e.g., MHA, MBA) (Preferred.)
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership in hospital laboratory operations, including multi-hospital system oversight.
  • Demonstrated success managing budgets over $30M and leading capital planning for advanced instrumentation.
  • Proven track record implementing LIS integration and laboratory automation projects.
