Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS) is an urban school division in Roanoke, Virginia, serving approximately 14,000 pre-K through 12th-grade students. With a commitment to fostering a student-centered culture, RCPS empowers students to reach their full potential as lifelong learners and contributing members of the community. The division encompasses 17 elementary schools, five middle schools, two high schools, and four program locations, including the Roanoke Valley Governor's School for Science & Technology and two Career Technical Education Centers.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of the school principal, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position. Ability to compose routine reports consistent with the duties of this position. Communicate effectively using reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills with students, faculty, staff, and administration. Work in team setting. Adhere to District, State, and Federal established deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes. Maintain accurate records of student progress. Utilize assessment techniques to monitor student progress and success as outlined in the division assessment plans. Evaluate student progress utilizing SMART goals. Operate and stay current on appropriate instructional technology equipment. Demonstrate computer literacy and internet skills. Retrieve and manage information via technology. Demonstrate a willingness to provide online instruction. Computer program knowledge in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
