Job description

About Honey Homes

Honey Homes makes homeownership effortless. We proactively handle members’ everyday to-dos, ongoing maintenance, and surprise repairs by pairing each member with a dedicated handyperson and a simple app to coordinate it all. Our mission is to replace hassle and stress with the joy of comfortable living, and we’re building the technology to make that magic happen at scale.

We’re growing fast, serving over 3,000 happy members, and backed by top investors including Khosla Ventures, Pear VC, and the co-founders of DoorDash, Lyft, and Opendoor.

The role

As one of the first engineers on the team, you’ll have outsized ownership and impact. You’ll shape the foundation of Honey Homes’ technology, from our member and handyperson apps to the internal platform (“Honey Homes OS”) that powers our nationwide operations. You’ll have the chance to influence product direction, architecture, and engineering culture from day one.

We’re looking for a thoughtful, full-stack generalist who loves taking ownership of big, ambiguous problems and shipping elegant solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with teammates across the company to create the seamless experience that defines Honey Homes.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in small, high-trust teams, where decisions are fast, ideas turn into features in days, and your work directly affects thousands of members’ daily lives.

This role is fully remote, with the option to work from our Oakland, CA headquarters.

  • You’re a self-starter and act as an owner. You’re excited to own critical features of our product, and have thrived in environments with a large amount of responsibility and autonomy before. (Bonus points for being a previous founder or early employee at a rapidly-growing startup.)

  • You’re energized by ambiguity and complexity. We are a fast-moving startup tackling complicated problems, and you’ve been successful on similar teams. You have the ability to independently balance speed and scrappiness with long-term technical excellence.

  • You have a growth mindset and are motivated to learn and improve your craft in this role. (Bonus points for passion about home maintenance and improvement.)

6-month outcomes

  • Ship high-quality contributions to our backend, web, and mobile products. Frequently deliver high-quality, delightful product experiences make a positive impact on achieving our goals, such as new member sign-ups, engagement, and retention. This is an opportunity to put your stamp on long-term vision and architecture of critical products.

  • Empower our internal teams. Build tools that make our operations and handyperson team faster, smarter, and happier, transforming the way we coordinate work across thousands of homes.

  • Collaborate deeply with operators. To move quickly, build strong relationships with the teams closest to our members and handypeople, and learn how to independently get feedback on product initiatives and triage issues that emerge.

  • Shape our engineering team culture. As a member of Honey Homes’ early engineering team, contribute to making Honey Homes an amazing place to work for engineers for years to come.

We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants equally without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status. Women and under-represented minorities are encouraged to apply.
