What is a home staging assistant?

Home Staging Assistants are professionals who help prepare residential properties for sale by arranging furniture, decor, and accessories to make homes look appealing to potential buyers. They work under the direction of a home stager or staging company, assisting with tasks such as decluttering, cleaning, and setting up decorative elements. Their goal is to create a welcoming and attractive environment that highlights the best features of a property, helping it sell more quickly and often at a higher price.

What does a home staging assistant do?

A home staging assistant helps prepare a house for real estate showings. Your duties include improving the interior design of homes. Many staging assistants work with vacant or model homes, but you can also assist home sellers who are still living in their home as they try to sell it. You increase a home’s attractiveness by changing furniture placement, adding lighting, or helping to declutter the living space. Your responsibilities can include working on commercial buildings or model rental units as well. In existing homes, you can help load boxes and store furniture to achieve the desired decluttered appearance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home staging assistant?

To thrive as a Home Staging Assistant, you need a keen eye for interior design, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of real estate and home décor principles, with some employers preferring a background in design or related fields. Familiarity with design software, inventory management systems, and basic photography tools is often important. Strong communication, organization, and the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments help you stand out. These skills ensure that properties are presented attractively and efficiently, maximizing their appeal and supporting successful sales.

What are some common challenges faced by home staging assistants and how can they be managed?

Home Staging Assistants often work in fast-paced environments where priorities can shift quickly based on client needs and property deadlines. A common challenge is coordinating multiple tasks—such as moving furniture, arranging décor, and ensuring properties are spotless—within tight timeframes. Effective communication with the lead stager and adaptability are key to managing these demands. Building good organizational habits and maintaining a positive attitude when facing last-minute changes or unexpected client requests will help you succeed in this role.

A Home Decor Assistant primarily helps with decorating and styling interiors for aesthetic purposes, usually within retail or private projects. The roles share similar skills but differ in purpose and work environment.

Is home staging a good career?

Our full-service offerings-which include interior design, luxury staging, elevated furniture rentals, and custom furniture production-are all driven by our proprietary technology and logistics expertise, ensuring an exceptional client experience.
Established in 2017, our team of over 50 designers creates sophisticated, beautiful interiors for residential, commercial, and hospitality projects globally. We are proud partners with top realtors, developers, the design trade, and high-profile individuals on some of the most exclusive properties in the high-end market. Our work has been featured in major design magazines and popular shows such as Bravo's Million Dollar Listings and Netflix's Selling Sunset.
As the leading home staging brand in the country, Vesta leverages its deep design and local market knowledge in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and South Florida to help sell multimillion-dollar properties faster and above the asking price, allowing buyers to seamlessly move into beautifully furnished spaces.
Position Overview
As a Repair Specialist you will serve as the guardian of our inventory, utilizing technical expertise to inspect, repair, and refurbish furniture and accessories. This position requires a blend of artistic creativity and technical precision, as you will be responsible for returning damaged items to showroom condition through wood touch-ups, structural repairs, and surface restoration. You will play a critical role in ensuring every piece that leaves our warehouse meets Vesta Home's impeccable standards.

  • Expertly assess damages on wood, metal, leather, fabric, and upholstery to determine the best repair method. Restore structural integrity by fixing loose joints, broken frames, and damaged finishes.
  • Perform specialized cosmetic repairs, including burn-ins, wood graining, and color blending, ensuring all repairs are seamless and invisible to the naked eye.
  • Repair and re-upholster furniture pieces to ensure uniformity and aesthetic consistency across the inventory.

Quality Control & Maintenance
  • Conduct rigorous inspections of furniture for imperfections, damages, or wear. Ensure every piece meets Vesta Home's luxury quality standards before it is approved for staging or delivery.
  • Regularly apply treatments such as stain removers, leather conditioners, and wood polish to enhance durability. Maintain strict cleaning and sanitation practices for all upholstery and soft goods.

Operations & Collaboration
  • Safely operate workshop tools and machinery, including sanders, saws, and spray equipment, while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with the warehouse and customer service teams to prioritize urgent repair requests. Work closely with the Design Team to execute customized refurbishments or alterations when required.
  • Assist with furniture assembly/disassembly and contribute to general warehouse organization to ensure efficient space utilization.
  • Assist with truck yard operations by acting as a safety spotter for reversing vehicles and managing traffic flow to ensure safe docking and departure.

These duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work and are not an exhaustive list. The employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in furniture repair, woodworking, or upholstery.
  • Demonstrated expertise in restoration techniques, including burn-ins, color matching, wood graining, fabric stretching, and structural repairs.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; advanced technical training or certification in furniture restoration is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail with a keen eye for design aesthetics to match Vesta Home's luxury standards.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including frequent standing, bending, and using hands for detailed work. Must be capable of lifting and maneuvering furniture items up to 50 lbs. (Items that weigh 50 lbs. or more require the assistance of another person).
