What are Home Stagers?

Home Stagers are professionals who prepare and decorate homes to make them more appealing to potential buyers. Their goal is to highlight a property's strengths and minimize its weaknesses by arranging furniture, adding decorative touches, and optimizing the space for visual impact. By staging a home, they help create a welcoming atmosphere that allows buyers to envision themselves living in the space, which can often lead to quicker sales and higher offers. Home stagers work with homeowners, real estate agents, and sometimes property developers to enhance a property's marketability.

What are some common challenges home stagers face when working with occupied homes, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge home stagers encounter with occupied homes is working around the homeowner’s existing furniture and personal items, which may not align with staging best practices. To address this, stagers often suggest temporary storage solutions and tactfully recommend decluttering or neutralizing decor to appeal to a broader range of potential buyers. Communication and collaboration with the homeowner are key, as is creating a staging plan that maximizes the home's appeal while respecting the client's needs and timeline.

How to get hired as a home stager?

To get hired as a home stager, develop a strong portfolio showcasing your work, gain experience through internships or volunteering, and consider obtaining certification from a recognized organization like the International Association of Home Staging Professionals. Building relationships with real estate agents and real estate companies can also help secure job opportunities in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Home Stager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Stager, you need a strong sense of interior design, knowledge of real estate trends, and often a background in design or staging certification. Familiarity with design software like SketchUp, Photoshop, or CAD, as well as inventory management systems, is typically required. Excellent communication, creativity, and time management skills help you tailor spaces to client needs and collaborate with real estate agents. These skills are vital for making properties more appealing to buyers, speeding up sales, and maximizing property value.

Is home staging a good career?

Home staging is a viable career that involves preparing properties for sale to appeal to buyers, often requiring skills in interior design, marketing, and customer service. It can offer flexible hours and the potential for self-employment, but success depends on market demand and individual skill level.

How do home stagers get paid?

Home stagers typically get paid through a combination of flat fees, hourly rates, or a percentage of the property's sale price. Payment arrangements depend on the project scope, client preferences, and whether the stager charges for consultation, design, or setup services. Some stagers also earn commissions or bonuses based on successful sales or client referrals.

How much do you get paid for staging homes?

Home stagers typically earn between $300 and $600 per project, with some charging hourly rates of $20 to $150 depending on experience and location. Experienced stagers with a strong portfolio can charge higher fees, and income may increase with repeat clients and additional services such as furniture rental or design consultations.

How much can you make staging a house?

Home stagers typically earn between $300 and $600 per project, with some experienced professionals charging $1,000 or more for larger or more complex homes. Annual income varies widely based on the number of projects, location, and experience, with many stagers earning between $30,000 and $80,000 per year. Successful stagers often build a portfolio, develop strong client relationships, and may work part-time or full-time.

How does a home stager make money?

A home stager makes money by charging clients for preparing and decorating homes to appeal to buyers, often through consultation fees, hourly rates, or flat project fees. They may also earn commissions or markups on furniture rentals, accessories, and other staging materials used in their setups.

Job description

Denver's Top Staging Company is seeking Staging Team Members! Pineapple Interiors, Denver’s largest and most prolific staging company, creates stunning installations for Developers and Builders, as well as Realtors and private homeowners/Sellers, to visually showcase their properties to sell quickly and profitably.   • Hanging artwork and mirrors;
  • Accessorizing and visually merchandising the rooms;
  • Steaming/Ironing Bed Linens;
  • Providing “detailing” assistance with a project completion task list.

  • The ability to take direction or give direction, based on the situation;
  • A strong work ethic.

Because this position may develop into a larger Lead Stager, we are also looking for candidates to ideally have the skill set to perform the following:
  • Project/room design and staging planning coordination of the various events, contractors, and team members on a given job;
  • Lead a crew of 2-5 people to successfully, efficiently and beautifully stage a property;

As well as these abilities:
  • Effective and professional communication with all levels of clientele to market the Company’s services and to speak to the benefits and necessity of staging as an aspect of marketing a home for sale and articulate the psychology of staging;
  • An understanding of real estate and staging;
  • Strong computer skills as all jobs are tracked through our inventory management system.

This is a unique job and will take the right person with the right combination of skills and lifestyle to fill it. There are high demands placed on the team in regard to the creative and physical output required for every project.
