What is a home provider?

Home Providers are individuals or organizations who offer housing and supportive services to people in need, such as individuals with disabilities, seniors, or those experiencing homelessness. They may work independently or through agencies to ensure residents have a safe, stable living environment while receiving necessary care and assistance. Responsibilities can include providing meals, personal care, companionship, and help with daily activities. Home Providers play a crucial role in helping individuals maintain independence and improve their quality of life.

What are the typical challenges home providers face when supporting individuals with diverse needs?

Home Providers often encounter challenges related to balancing the unique care requirements of individuals, such as managing medical needs, behavioral support, and daily living activities. Adjusting to varying routines and ensuring a safe, supportive environment can require flexibility and patience. Clear communication with case managers, families, and support staff is crucial for addressing issues promptly and maintaining a high standard of care. Many providers find that strong organizational skills and a compassionate mindset are key to overcoming these challenges and providing effective support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home provider, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Provider, you need knowledge of caregiving practices, household management, and often a high school diploma or equivalent, with some states requiring additional training or certification. Familiarity with care planning, medication administration, and record-keeping systems is commonly required. Compassion, patience, strong communication, and problem-solving are essential soft skills for building trust and effectively supporting individuals in a home setting. These skills and qualifications ensure a safe, nurturing environment and high-quality care for those being supported.

SCL Family Home Provider
Change a Life by Opening Your Heart and Home

Daily Rate + Monthly Room & Board Stipend

Tax Benefit: As Foster Care income, Family Home Provider pay is generally non-taxable!

Do you have extra room in your home and your heart? We believe that everyone deserves to be part of a family. Our Family Home Provider program allows individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live in a loving, stable home environment rather than a facility.

If you are a compassionate person looking for a rewarding lifestyle that allows you to work from home while making a generational impact, this is the role for you.

The Opportunity

As a Family Home Provider, you integrate an individual into your daily life. You aren’t just a caregiver; you are a mentor, a housemate, and a support system. Whether they need hands-on assistance with personal care or simply a companion to go grocery shopping and share a meal with, you provide the foundation for their independence.

What You’ll Do:

  • Create a Home: Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive living environment.

  • Daily Support: Assist with ADLs (cooking, cleaning, bathing) as required by the individual’s specific care level.

  • Health Oversight: Manage and ensure the administration of all prescribed medications.

  • Empowerment: Help the individual reach personal goals and develop life skills.

  • Community Life: Include the individual in family activities and outings— share the fun!

  • Compliance: Maintain accurate daily documentation to ensure the highest standard of care.

Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Age: Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Requirements: A valid Driver’s License, active auto insurance, ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with our administrative support team.

  • The Home: Ability to pass a home safety inspection and background check.

Why Partner with us?

We are the premier agency in Kentucky because we support our providers as much as our participants.

  • Financial Stability: Earn a competitive daily rate plus a monthly Room & Board stipend for rent and food.

  • Work-Life Balance: Respite care is built into your pay, ensuring you have the time you need for personal errands or rest.

  • Tax Advantages: Enjoy the benefits of non-taxable income under foster care provisions.

  • Unrivaled Support: You are never alone. Our administrative team provides 24/7 guidance and a culture of "Doing the right thing for the right reason."

Make a Difference Today

Ready to welcome someone into your family? Join the best agency in KY and start a journey that is as rewarding for you as it is for the participant.
