What is home builder design?

Home builder design refers to the process of planning and creating the layout, style, and features of a new home. It involves working with architects, designers, and homeowners to develop floor plans, choose materials, and determine the overall aesthetic of the house. The goal is to ensure the home is functional, meets the client's needs, and complies with building codes. Home builder design also includes considerations for energy efficiency, sustainability, and future resale value.

How does a home builder designer typically collaborate with clients and construction teams throughout a project?

A Home Builder Designer works closely with clients to understand their vision, preferences, and budget, often conducting multiple meetings to refine design concepts. Throughout the project, they coordinate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to ensure that the plans are feasible and compliant with local building codes. Regular site visits and progress meetings help the designer address any issues that arise and make necessary adjustments. Effective communication and the ability to balance creative ideas with practical constraints are key to success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home builder designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Builder Designer, you need expertise in architectural design, construction principles, and building codes, often supported by a degree in architecture or design. Proficiency with design software like AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D modeling tools, as well as knowledge of permitting processes, is typically required. Strong communication, creativity, and project management skills help you collaborate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. These skills ensure that home designs are both functional and aesthetically pleasing while meeting client needs and regulatory standards.

Role and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

This role represents the full Samsung portfolio in the Carolinas builder market - including Dacor, Samsung's ultra-premium appliance brand - and is responsible for driving both distributor-led and direct builder relationships with production builders, custom home builders, and multi-family developers. This is a rare opportunity to represent two distinct and complementary brands in a high-growth market - Samsung, the world's #1 appliance brand by volume, and Dacor, its ultra-premium counterpart - across one of the fastest-growing residential construction markets in the Southeast.

The Account Manager - Builder Channel will oversee the implementation of all sales programs and pricing (quote management) with local market builder distributors. The role is accountable for achieving or exceeding annual sales and margin objectives for both the Samsung and Dacor brands. The position is responsible for training all inside distributor sales personnel and working with outside distributor sales personnel in closing new business opportunities with home builders, multi-family principals and remodeling companies. The AM has the responsibility to ensure all sales programs are known to distributor personnel and are leveraged to drive our sales in market. At times, the AM role will need to review Samsung's "order-to-cash" process with distributor administrative management to ensure compliance. Converts regional execution plans into local market actions with trade customers - with specific monthly goals and objectives.

This role will cover portions of both North and South Carolina.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for achieving current annual sales targets across the Samsung and Dacor portfolios, while positioning the business for continued growth in future years.
  • Develop and manage direct relationships with production builders, custom builders, and multi-family principals - positioning Samsung and Dacor as the preferred appliance brands at the builder principal and purchasing level.
  • Serve as the primary Samsung and Dacor brand ambassador with builder design studios, interior design teams, and purchasing departments to drive specification wins and protect installed business.
  • Leverage the Dacor brand to penetrate the luxury custom home and high-end multi-family segments, collaborating with Dacor's dedicated product marketing and training teams where applicable.
  • Enable distributor sales teams (inside and outside) to know and understand the Samsung and Dacor brands, value proposition, performance and features of our products and services.
  • Along with distributor sales personnel, review products and programs with new builders, multi-family contacts, design centers and interior designers.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge and expertise with regard to all new single and multi-family construction in the market, as well as builders and interior designers within the assigned territory.
  • Provide competitive market intelligence feedback to the Regional Sales Director and National Sales Director.
  • Identify business opportunities with distributor sales people and work with them to develop business relationships, project sales pipeline and close contracts.
  • Maintain an up-to-date sales call plan with objectives and document all communications and committed actions to distributor personnel with consistent AM follow-through.
  • Coordinate with other AMs on behalf of distributors to align on multi-market builder or out-of-market business opportunities, including both multi-family and single-family builder projects and communities.
  • Participate in regular builder tracking meetings with the specification representatives.

Skills and Qualifications

Necessary Skills / Attributes:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; 6+ years of direct experience or equivalent industry experience.
  • Deep familiarity with the super-premium and luxury appliance segment, with demonstrated ability to position and sell ultra-premium brands such as Dacor to discerning builders, designers, and affluent end consumers. Understands how luxury specification decisions are made in custom home and high-end multi-family construction.
  • Proven track record of managing and growing direct builder relationships alongside distributor channel partnerships.
  • Working knowledge of building material distributors - both inside (showroom) and outside (prospecting) sales personnel.
  • Total working knowledge of all marketing support materials and how they can be best utilized.
  • Active member of local industry associations such as NAHB, NKBA, and ASID - attends all meetings and joins selective committees.
  • Participates in regional or national trade shows.
  • Communicates product/forecasting needs to supply chain and RSD.
  • Committed to upgrading sales and relationship management skills on an ongoing basis, e.g., "The Challenger Sale" methodology.
  • Sales productivity focus - 70% of time in selling activities (face time with trade customers), 30% in sales administration.
  • Strong business and trade customer performance and action-taking abilities.
  • Business and quotation negotiation expertise.
  • Product training expert on home appliances, luxury appliances, and connected home.
  • Proficiency in quote/pricing management practices.
  • Excels in multi-tasking with solid time management and organizational skills.
  • Computer savvy - internet, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel spreadsheets, AI.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under remote supervision and exercise independent judgment.
  • Progressive sales leadership career working with the home building and remodeling industries, preferably in the home appliance industry.
  • Known to be a thought leader among high-performing sales teams with a history of exceeding challenging sales quotas.
