What is home builder design?

Home builder design refers to the process of planning and creating the layout, style, and features of a new home. It involves working with architects, designers, and homeowners to develop floor plans, choose materials, and determine the overall aesthetic of the house. The goal is to ensure the home is functional, meets the client's needs, and complies with building codes. Home builder design also includes considerations for energy efficiency, sustainability, and future resale value.

How does a home builder designer typically collaborate with clients and construction teams throughout a project?

A Home Builder Designer works closely with clients to understand their vision, preferences, and budget, often conducting multiple meetings to refine design concepts. Throughout the project, they coordinate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to ensure that the plans are feasible and compliant with local building codes. Regular site visits and progress meetings help the designer address any issues that arise and make necessary adjustments. Effective communication and the ability to balance creative ideas with practical constraints are key to success in this collaborative environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home builder designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Builder Designer, you need expertise in architectural design, construction principles, and building codes, often supported by a degree in architecture or design. Proficiency with design software like AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D modeling tools, as well as knowledge of permitting processes, is typically required. Strong communication, creativity, and project management skills help you collaborate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. These skills ensure that home designs are both functional and aesthetically pleasing while meeting client needs and regulatory standards.

Job description

Builder / Project Manager – Luxury Custom Homes

About Our Client:

Our client is a boutique builder crafting high-end, design-forward custom homes in the heart of Atlanta’s most sought-after neighborhoods along the 400 corridor. With an emphasis on craftsmanship, detail, and timeless design, they specialize in infill custom homes that start at $2M and above.

Their work is driven by integrity, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to quality. They don’t cut corners, and they don’t chase volume. They build legacy homes. With a small, close-knit team that walks job sites together and solves problems side by side, they’re now seeking an experienced Builder / Project Manager to join the team and help bring architectural visions to life.

Who We’re Looking For:

You’re polished, professional, and proud of your work. You’ve led the build of multi-million dollar custom homes and can navigate complex job sites with confidence and precision. You’re detail-obsessed, blueprint fluent, and know how to keep trades, clients, and projects aligned from groundbreaking to final walkthrough.

You have experience working with a respected custom home builder and thrive in environments where design matters and craftsmanship is king. This isn’t production building—it’s boutique, hands-on construction at the highest level.

What You’ll Need:

• 3–5+ years of experience building custom homes

• Proven track record with a notable luxury or custom home builder

• Strong experience managing infill projects and basement installations

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and architectural drawings

• Excellent communication skills and client-facing professionalism

• A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset

What You’ll Get:

• Base salary: $90,000–$120,000

• Performance bonuses

• Truck & phone allowance

• Matching 401(k)

• Paid PTO

• Contributions toward health insurance

• Continuing education support & professional development

If you’re ready to build homes that define neighborhoods—and work with a company that values doing things the right way—apply today.
