Sr Project Manager (VMware>Nutanix)

Chandler, AZ • On-site

Job description

**Project Manager – Infrastructure Migration (VMware to Nutanix)**

**Location:** Chandler, AZ area (on-site/hybrid preferred) | **Contract-to-Hire**

Can consider this remotely in any part of the US as well but strong preference for someone in Chandler, AZ or Austin Texas.

**About the Opportunity**

Our client is undertaking a global infrastructure modernization initiative, migrating their virtualization environment off VMware and onto Nutanix. They're looking for an experienced Project Manager to own this migration from planning through execution and into post-migration stabilization. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a clear path to full-time employment for the right candidate.

**What You'll Do**

- Own end-to-end project management for a global VMware-to-Nutanix infrastructure migration

- Build and manage project plans, timelines, risk registers, and stakeholder communication cadences across the life of the migration

- Coordinate closely with infrastructure, systems engineering, security, and networking teams to keep the migration on track across multiple sites/regions

- Partner with application teams to plan, support, and validate testing of applications as they're rolled out into the new post-migration environment

- Manage the transition period where legacy VMware-dependent workflows and applications are cut over and stabilized on Nutanix

- Track progress against milestones, proactively surface risks or blockers, and adjust plans as issues surface mid-migration

- Manage vendor and contractor resources supporting the technical migration effort

- Report progress and risk to executive stakeholders, including CIO-level leadership

**What You Bring**

- Prior experience specifically leading a VMware-to-Nutanix migration is strongly preferred — this is the single most important qualifier for this role

- If not VMware-to-Nutanix specifically, deep experience managing a comparable large-scale hypervisor or infrastructure migration is required

- Demonstrated experience working closely with infrastructure and systems engineering teams, not just tracking their work from a distance — you should be comfortable in the technical details of a migration, even if you're not the one executing it

- Experience supporting application testing and rollout into newly migrated environments — you understand that a migration isn't "done" when the VMs move, it's done when the applications running on top of them are validated and stable

- Strong track record managing multi-site or global-scope technical infrastructure projects

- Experience managing a mix of internal teams and contract/vendor resources

- Excellent executive-level communication and reporting skills

- PMP or equivalent PM certification a plus, but not required if project experience is strong

**Location & Logistics**

Candidates based in or willing to work from the Chandler, AZ area strongly preferred, as this role has a path to full-time conversion tied to a physical hub location.
