Job description

Job Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and executing comprehensive safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance programs across all Senergy Petroleum operations. This role serves as a strategic and hands-on leader supporting fuel transportation, bulk plants, cardlock operations, lubricant distribution, petroleum equipment operations, warehouses, and field service activities throughout multiple operating states. The Safety Manager partners closely with Operations, Transportation, Fleet Maintenance, HR, and Field Leadership to build and sustain a culture rooted in accountability, compliance, operational excellence, and People-Based Safety principles. This position ensures compliance with OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, EPA, state environmental regulations, and company-specific safety standards while proactively reducing risk, minimizing incidents, and protecting employees, customers, company assets, and the environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential
Regulatory Compliance & Safety Leadership
  • Assists in leading the company's Environmental Health & Safety programs across fuel transportation, bulk plant operations, cardlock facilities, warehouses, and customer field locations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide EHS policies, procedures, training programs, and compliance initiatives aligned with OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, EPA, MSHA, and applicable state regulations.
  • Drive a People-Based Safety culture through proactive engagement, coaching, field observations, and behavior-based safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with: OSHA regulations, DOT/FMCSA requirements, Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), HAZWOPER standards, EPA/SPCC compliance, Fire prevention and suppression requirements, Respiratory protection programs, Lockout/Tagout procedures, Confined space requirements, Industrial hygiene standards, and Fleet and transportation safety standards.
  • Manage environmental reporting and regulatory documentation, including spill response reporting, air quality requirements, waste handling, and environmental compliance records.
  • Maintain and oversee OSHA 300 logs, workers' compensation records, safety metrics, injury analytics, and required compliance reporting.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in federal, state, and local EHS regulations impacting company operations.

Incident Management & Risk Reduction
  • Lead incident investigations involving vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, near misses, spills, property damage, and environmental events.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive action plans to reduce recurrence.
  • Partner with operational leadership to identify trends and develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support workers' compensation management through injury tracking, return-to-work coordination, medical case oversight, and claim cost reduction efforts.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers on employee accountability, safety coaching, and corrective action recommendations.
  • Maintain emergency response readiness and coordinate post-incident response activities.

Inspections, Audits & Field Support
  • Conduct routine and unannounced safety audits, field observations, facility inspections, and operational assessments across all company locations.
  • Perform safety observations, fleet safety assessments, terminal inspections, and site-specific hazard evaluations.
  • Identify compliance gaps and develop actionable corrective action plans with operational leadership.
  • Track completion of corrective actions and ensure timely resolution of deficiencies.
  • Support field personnel with safety coaching, hazard identification, and compliance guidance.
  • Assist with customer and regulatory audits as required.
  • Evaluate contractor and third-party safety compliance when operating on company or customer sites.

Behavioral Safety & Readiness
  • Develop and facilitate engaging behavioral based safety training programs for all staff.
  • Coordinate and administer training related to: Hazard communication, Spill response, PPE requirements, Emergency response, Fire extinguisher usage, Lockout/Tagout, Heat illness prevention, Safe lifting and ergonomics.
  • Maintain accurate employee training records and compliance documentation.
  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, tailgate meetings, and ongoing awareness campaigns throughout the organization.
  • Partner with HR and Operations to support onboarding and new hire safety orientation programs.

Program & Committee Management
  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of company safety management systems and operational safety standards.
  • Manage and support company Safety Committee initiatives and action plans.
  • Develop emergency response procedures and coordinate drills related to fuel spills, fires, environmental incidents, severe weather, and other emergency scenarios.
  • Recommend operational, engineering, and procedural improvements to minimize risk exposure and improve workplace safety.
  • Analyze safety performance data and KPI trends to provide actionable recommendations to leadership.
  • Support company initiatives focused on operational excellence, compliance sustainability, and employee engagement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required
  • Two or more years' experience in Safety Management, Operations Management, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Strong computer skills and able to learn company systems and processes.
  • Adheres to the company's values and ethical expectations.
  • Able to effectively multitask.
  • Understanding of DOT regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent understanding of OSHA/MSHA regulations
  • Ability to train in Smith Systems, Forklift Training, Reasonable Suspicion and any others pertinent to Safety.

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health or a related field.
  • Five or more years' experience in safety management for an oil/gas/transportation or related industry.
  • Strong understanding and background with third party management systems (ISNet, Avetta, Variform).
  • CSP, CIH, ASP, CHMM, OHST, or similar safety certification credential.
  • Class A CDL with Hazmat/Tanker endorsement.
