Job description

**THIS IS NOT AN IT POSITION**

Position Title: Technical Specialist - Emergency Lighting Systems
Classification: Exempt | Full-Time
Reports To: Manager, Sales Support & OEM Development

Why This Role Exists

This isn’t a traditional sales support position—and it’s not a pure engineering role either.

This role sits at the intersection of:

  • Electrical systems
  • Life safety compliance
  • Real-world application

You will take electrical designs, specifications, and intent—and turn them into code-compliant, buildable, real-world solutions that perform when it matters most.

If you like solving problems that actually get installed in buildings—and matter in emergency situations—you’ll feel right at home here.

???? What You’ll Do

???? Translate Design into Reality

  • Develop accurate, timely, and technically sound quotations from electrical drawings and specifications
  • Interpret one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and system intent to define scope and performance

⚙️ Own the Application

  • Evaluate how systems perform under normal and emergency power conditions
  • Apply and ensure compliance with NFPA, NEC, IBC, UL 924, and related standards
  • Identify design gaps, inconsistencies, and potential compliance risks early

???? Be the Technical Bridge

  • Work closely with sales, engineering, and customers to clarify requirements and align solutions
  • Translate technical concepts into practical, real-world applications
  • Support customer-facing technical discussions when needed (no selling required)

????️ Solve Real Problems

  • Provide application-level technical support and troubleshooting
  • Own issues through resolution—partnering across teams to get it done
  • Ensure final solutions are accurate, functional, and aligned with project intent

???? Support Smart Solutions (Not Just Perfect Ones)

  • Develop proposals and submittals that are technically sound and practical
  • Maintain awareness of product capabilities and application constraints to support effective outcomes

???? What Success Looks Like

  • Your quotes are accurate, compliant, and actionable
  • Sales trusts you because your solutions actually work
  • Engineering respects you because you “get it”
  • Customers rely on you because you make complex systems make sense

???? What You Bring

Required

  • 3+ years in electrical, lighting, or technical applications (or similar environment)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, circuitry, and power distribution
  • Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, IBC (UL exposure a plus)
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Clear, confident communication—technical and practical

Preferred

  • Experience with emergency lighting systems, inverters, or transfer devices
  • Exposure to UL 924 / UL 1008 applications
  • Familiarity with lighting control systems behavior
  • Experience supporting engineers, contractors, or distributors
  • ERP/CRM experience (SAP a plus)

???? What Makes This Role Different

  • No quotas. No cold calls. No sales pressure.
  • High-impact work tied to life safety systems
  • Real collaboration across engineering, sales, and customers
  • Opportunity to build deep technical credibility in a specialized space
