Job Title:Professor - Faculty in AnatomyDepartment:Medicine | Biomedical Education and Anatomy-Administration

Position Overview:

The Department of Biomedical Education and Anatomy is seeking a Director for the Anatomy Division of the department. Faculty (tenure preferred but not required) at the associate professor level or higher who have earned a doctorate or other terminal degree in a relevant field of study or who have possession of equivalent experience are invited to apply.

TheAnatomy Division Directoris responsible for supervising the administrative services of a technologically advanced facility that supports human body donor-based anatomy instruction for health professions learners. The incumbent will oversee the coordination of multidepartment administrative services, including IT, facilities, student services, budgetary financial management, and human resources to maintain operations, staffing, faculty and learner support. They are also responsible for managing and supporting the Body Donation Program activities and staff. Beyond the scope of health professions education, they will support the division's education and research programs and ensure that the Division leads the nation in Anatomical Sciences Education and Scholarship.

Performance Objectives:

Leadership and General Administrative Duties

• Create a positive work environment for the Division that encourages communication, trust, teamwork, and professional growth.
• Develop and maintain a culture that ensures all faculty and staff feel valued and supported. Strengthen others by showing appreciation and celebrating successes.
• Build a culture of professionalism, transparency, and accountability within the Division by being a role model, holding faculty accountable and providing timely and constructive feedback.
• Establish a system for ensuring that relevant information from the Department, Medical School, and Hospital/Health System is communicated in a timely manner to all faculty and staff.
• Actively partner with administrative staff to manage the business and financial operations of the Division.
• Serve as a role model of engagement in important Department, College, Hospital/Health System activities and initiatives.
• Follows all best practices concerning human body donor material uses in education and research according to state law and the standards for the field of anatomy set forth by relevant professional organizations (e.g. AAA, HAPS).

Division-Specific Educational Programs

• Establish and maintain excellence of Division education programs that meet the needs of the following groups of learners, as appropriate and directed by the Department, Medical School and/or Hospital/Health System:
• Medical students
• Dental students
• Graduate students (MS and PhD)
• Undergraduate students
• Residents
• Fellows
• Health professions practitioners (continuing medical education programs)
• Allied health professionals
• Ensure all education components meet accreditation requirements where applicable.
• Teaches in anatomy program consistent with expertise within the four major subfields (i.e., Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Histology, Neuroanatomy)
• Mentors faculty, learners and graduate students

Oversight of Research and Scholarly Missions of the Division

• Sustain a scholarship program with demonstrated excellence and evidence of productivity.
• Create an environment to foster research and scholarly activities in the Division.
• Develop an overall thematic approach and strategic plan for research within the Division.
• Foster collaboration and team science within and beyond the Division.
• Ensure appropriate mentorship and progress for faculty engaged in research.
• Monitor research budgets and effort allocation.

Career Development of Faculty

• Monitor, foster, and guide career development of each faculty member in the Division, in concert with the expectations of the Department and College of Medicine.
• Ensure that every faculty member has an annual individual performance review and an updated career development plan annually.
• Provide guidance to faculty for academic promotion and procure and prepare letters of recommendation as appropriate.

Strategic Planning for the Division

• In cooperation with the Department Chair, engage in strategic planning for the Division.
• Coordinate faculty recruitment process with the Department Chair.
• Work collaboratively with other Division Directors within and beyond the Department to increase efficiencies where possible and reduce unnecessary overlap of services/education/scholarly activities.
• Assist Department Chair as applicable in coordination of comprehensive self-study and review of Division activities approximately every 5 years.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Education Required: Doctorate (Academic) with a Major focus in anatomy or relevant field

Required Qualifications:

• PhD in Anatomy or a related field.
• Record of success as a master educator, professional leader, and scholar with evidence of a robust scholarship program.
• 5+ years of directly relevant experience.
• Solid organizational and customer service skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and quickly evaluate complex issues and identify resolutions.
• Solid knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, as well as human resources and risk management planning.
• Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration.
• Solid interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling to effectively motivate others.
• Requires successful completion of a background check.

Construction of a new Anatomy Institute at The OSUWMC was completed in January of 2022. This highly innovative and IT- enhanced space includes a new 3,750 square-foot morgue with seven independent laboratory spaces for undergraduate, graduate, medical and dental anatomy as well as specialized laboratories for undergraduate, outreach and medical and dental continuing education programming. The Anatomy Institute represented the first component of a new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center that was completed in 2024 as part of an innovative model for health sciences education, which creates an environment that fosters the experiences and opportunities necessary for individuals to grow and become tomorrow's health care leaders.

The new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center includes a new 59,400 square-foot Classroom Wing and back renovation of historic Hamilton Hall providing a 225,000 square-foot inter-professional learning facility composed of 33 interdisciplinary, state-of-the-art technology enhanced classrooms, 6,000 square foot student forum, 125-seat Grand Reading Room, 75-person computer center for interdisciplinary student-faculty use and numerous private study rooms and small collaboration spaces. This space also includes new office space designed to house the OSUMC Biomedical Education and Anatomy leadership, faculty and staff including specifically designed office space for Anatomy Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching Assistants. The four-story glass atrium health sciences forum overlooks a newly designed Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Quadrangle that provides an outdoor focal point that unites medical, dental, nursing, optometry, and the allied health sciences into a truly interdisciplinary health sciences campus
