JOB TITLE: Lead/Residential Assistant

REPORTS TO: Director of HBCU Initiatives

DEPARTMENT: Title III &Thurgood Marshall College Fund

EXEMPT: Non-Exempt

VICE PRESIDENT: Vice President of CTE, Sponsored Grants, & HBCU Initiatives

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students.

The SOAR Lead Staff member serves as a key support person for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund SOAR HBCU Scholars Program and assists the Director of HBCU Initiatives with the overall coordination and implementation of program activities. Lead Staff provide supervision and guidance to mentors, support daily operations, ensure student engagement, and help maintain a positive and productive program environment. Lead Staff serve as role models and leaders while helping ensure the successful execution of all program components.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Must demonstrate an ability to teach and engage high school students in a classroom or enrichment setting

Strong commitment to working with disadvantaged and underrepresented student populations

Ability to incorporate innovative, hands-on, and experiential learning strategies

Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

Ability to collaborate effectively with program staff and stakeholders

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject area (required)

Previous experience working with students is highly desirable

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

Develop and implement engaging, hands-on curriculum for assigned subject area.

Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student growth and achievement

Monitor and assess student progress, providing timely feedback and academic support

Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance

Collaborate with program staff to ensure alignment with overall program objectives

Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and program activities as required

Encourage student participation in academic, cultural, and enrichment activities

Uphold program policies, procedures, TMCF SOAR guidelines

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Will supervise participants during their residential stay and during summer activities.

Responsible for ensuring student safety, accountability, and appropriate behavior in residential and program settings.

Will provide guidance and support to assigned student groups under the direction of program staff.
