PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Aircraft Structural Mechanic III is responsible for assessing aircraft damage and draft repair procedures to aircraft structural and composite components. Must be able to utilize advanced metalworking practices and depot level techniques to form, cut, bend, and fasten new / repair components to damaged structures. Must be highly proficient in close tolerance drilling/reaming for installation of high-strength fasteners. Expert in the use powered / non-powered metalworking tooling and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Inspect / assess damage to aircraft structural components and formulate proper repair/replacement procedures utilizing applicable technical data.
  • Remove and install close tolerance, high-strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components.
  • Designs structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatments with respect to original strength, weight, and contour to maintain structural integrity.
  • Perform post repair flight control weight and balance functions as well as control surface rigging per designated technical orders.
  • Inspect components/repairs for structural serviceability according to specifications and technical publications.
  • Manufactures / use jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts.
  • Use advanced metalworking practices, equipment, and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components.
  • Able to train shop drawing and depot level metal layout techniques; shop mathematics; corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention; cleaning of metals; application of protective coatings, and markings.
  • Recommends methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures.
  • Uses automated maintenance systems. Inputs, validates, and analyzes data processed to automated systems.
  • Inspects, clears, and closes out completed maintenance discrepancies in automated maintenance systems.
  • Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
  • Stores, handles, and disposes of hazardous waste and materials according to environmental standards and company processes.
  • Operates and maintains related aircraft Support Equipment (SE).
  • Use automated maintenance systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, document maintenance actions, and time change database.
  • Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks.
  • Maintain strict tool control procedures. Report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor. Inventory and inspect tools on a regular basis and replace worn or broken tools.
  • Comply with safety rules and regulations while performing day to day maintenance. Promptly report all accidents, injuries, safety violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
  • Maintain equipment records. Enter in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verify the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • The Aircraft Structural Mechanic will be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Highly skilled in depot level processes and procedures for replacement of major structural components.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, technical documentation, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong decision analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management.
  • Highly knowledgeable of fixed wing aircraft construction features, identification and characteristics of aerospace materials to include proper use, mixing, and storage of acids, solvents, alcohol, caustics, primers, and paints, and proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.
  • Extensive knowledge in fabrication and depot repair / replacement of metal components, tubing, cable, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite structural components.
  • Intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred.
  • Must be able to utilize respirator, forced air, or other breathing equipment during the performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members.
  • Must possess effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly communicate information to others.
  • Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
  • Ability to follow processes.
  • Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
  • Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to Yulista goals.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 12+ years of relevant aircraft structural maintenance experience with fixed / rotary wing commercial, Government or DOD aircraft.
  • 5+ years of depot level structural maintenance experience
  • Previous Air Force Specialty Code 2A773 highly desirable.
  • Multi aspect aviation qualifications / certifications / disciplines and ability to train these skills a must.
  • Experience supporting DoD contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within depot level maintenance.
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and/or Powerplant certification a plus
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
