Job description

Minister Of Music

Baptist Search Partners is excited to partner with North Shelby Baptist Church to find their next Minister of Music.

About the Vision

Joyfully leveraging our lives together for the Gospel of Christ to our neighbors, our nation, and the nations is more than a statementโ€”it is the driving mission of North Shelby Baptist Church. This vision shapes every aspect of the church's life and ministry, fueling a deep commitment to gospel-centered living, intentional discipleship, and outward-focused engagement.

In light of this mission, North Shelby is prayerfully seeking a Minister of Music who will lead the congregation in Christ-centered, gospel-rich worship. The church is looking for a leader who is musically gifted, doctrinally grounded, and pastorally mindedโ€”someone who will partner with the pastoral staff to faithfully shepherd the congregation through worship and help cultivate the next generation of worshippers.

This individual will not simply lead music but will champion a ministry that embodies the church's mission, mobilizing the congregation to worship with joy, unity, and purposeโ€”all for the glory of God.

About the Church

North Shelby began in 1993 and has grown into a thriving, multi-generational church that treasures God's Word, values vibrant congregational worship, and is deeply committed to making disciples both locally and globally. Averaging 420 in weekly worship and celebrating 50 baptisms over the past three years, the church reflects both spiritual vitality and steady growth. North Shelby is known for its warm, welcoming spirit, and as the congregation continues to expand, it remains intentional about cultivating a strong sense of family and unity.

This season of growth brings both excitement and opportunity. With a strong desire to gather as one body for worship, North Shelby is preparing to launch a capital campaign to expand and update its facilities. Plans include the construction of a new common gathering space, a new worship center, and a dedicated choir suite, along with renovations to enhance and expand educational space. These developments are designed to position the church for sustained ministry impact and to better serve its growing community in the years ahead.

About the Opportunity

A more extensive job description will be provided to candidates during the interview process.

These are truly exciting days at North Shelby. The Music Ministry is built on a strong foundation and is poised for continued growth and excellence. There is tremendous opportunity for a visionary leader to mobilize volunteers, cultivate musical gifts, and lead the congregation in meaningful, Christ-centered worship. The church is prayerfully seeking a courageous and capable leader to serve as its next Minister of Music.

The Minister of Music shall serve the Lord and North Shelby Baptist Church as a member of the Ministerial Staff. The church prioritizes congregational singing with a rich diet of historic and modern hymns, as well as newer songs. North Shelby desires to worship as described in Ephesians 5:19, "addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart."

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Pastor with worship planning.
  • Continually seek God's will and guidance for the music program of North Shelby, by spending time in prayer and study, and in consultation with the Pastor and other Ministerial Staff.
  • Coordinate the program of music education for preschool, kids, youth, and adults, encouraging the development of leadership for the membership.
  • Provide leadership for all music personnel.
  • Direct the adult choir, orchestra, and congregational worship.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in worship leadership or music and three or more years of experience leading a growing, multi-generational Music Ministry is preferred.

About the Community

Shelby County, located just southeast of Birmingham, is one of the fastest-growing areas in the state, known for its strong schools, high quality of life, family-friendly environment, and abundant recreational opportunities. Outdoor enthusiasts benefit from nearby destinations like Oak Mountain State Parkโ€”Alabama's largest state parkโ€”featuring hiking, biking, camping, and lake recreation. Within the county, the communities of Chelsea and Highland Lakes are rapidly expanding, attracting young families and professionals seeking community, stability, and opportunity.

Chelsea, in particular, continues to grow through new residential development, while Highland Lakes offers a scenic, neighborhood-oriented setting. Together, these areas are marked by a family-focused, relational cultureโ€”creating meaningful opportunities for evangelism, discipleship, and community engagement.

North Shelby Baptist Church has hired Baptist Search Partners to conduct this search on their behalf. Please do not contact the church directly as they will point you back to applying with us.
