About the Program
The Higher Ground Tutoring Program connects Chapman University undergraduate students with K-12 students at Higher Ground Youth and Family Services, a community-based after-school program in Anaheim, CA. This partnership provides academic support to students while offering Chapman students valuable hands-on educational experience.
Position Overview
The Tutoring Program Coordinator serves as the operational hub of the community partnership between Chapman and Higher Ground, managing all aspects of program logistics, tutor recruitment, student matching, and ongoing coordination between Chapman University and Higher Ground staff. This role requires strong organizational skills, clear communication, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to educational equity.

Recruitment & Selection
Design and implement tutor recruitment campaigns (flyers, social media, email, Canvas announcements)
Develop and manage interest surveys to assess tutor qualifications, availability, and language skills
Screen applications and coordinate selection process with faculty advisor
Tutor-Student Matching
Create and maintain matching spreadsheets linking tutors with K-12 students
Match based on subject expertise, language needs, availability, and student priorities
Onboarding & Compliance
Coordinate background check completion (Live Scan) for all tutors
Track completion of required training modules

Ongoing Program Coordination
Serve as primary liaison between Chapman tutors and Higher Ground staff
Collect and respond to tutor questions, concerns, and needs
Resource Management
Identify tutoring materials and supplies needed
Administer surveys (early check-in, mid-semester, end-of-semester)
Track tutor attendance and participation
Compile data for program evaluation and reporting
Administrative Support
Schedule and organize tutor meetings and professional development sessions
Maintain program files and documentation
Create program materials (handbooks, guides, resources)
Support faculty advisor with program-related tasks
Required Qualifications
Required
Currently enrolled Chapman University undergraduate student (sophomore or above preferred)
Strong organizational and project management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Proficiency with Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Forms, Drive)
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Professional, reliable, and detail-oriented
Commitment to educational equity and community partnership
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Valid California driver's license or reliable transportation to Higher Ground (Anaheim)
Desired Qualifications
Preferred
Major in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, or related field
Previous experience with tutoring, mentoring, or youth programs
Experience recruiting, coordinating volunteers, or managing programs
Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred
