Mechanical Engineer
Sterling Heights, MI
Contract Position
$44.99-$47.85/Hour
We are hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in Sterling Heights, MI, to support the design, integration, and validation of advanced ground combat vehicle systems and mechanical assemblies. This role requires expertise in mechanical design, articulating and locking mechanisms, CAD modeling, GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, prototype integration, Human Factors Engineering (HFE), and vehicle systems integration supporting mission-critical military vehicle programs.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead design of articulating, locking, or sliding mechanisms in compliance with Human Factors Engineering (HFE) standards.
  • Provide technical direction to Design Services for the creation of CAD models, installation layouts, and detailed drawings.
  • Support prototype build and integration efforts, resolve design or build issues during procurement and on-site activities.
  • Interpret technical drawings and perform tolerance stack-ups; apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) where applicable.
  • Contribute to preliminary mechanical design and analysis from system-level requirements.
  • Perform failure analysis and recommend corrective actions for system/component-level issues.
  • Write technical documentation, including reports and modification instructions.
  • Use CAD tools (CREO preferred) for concept generation and feasibility modeling.
  • Utilize Teamcenter or similar PDM systems for data management.
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ANSA, Nastran, or LS-DYNA is a plus.

Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Active or ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
  • 5-7 years of professional mechanical design or systems integration experience.
  • Previous experience with ground combat vehicles is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling tools (CREO preferred).
  • Familiarity with PDM systems (e.g., Teamcenter) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to work in office, shop, plant, test lab, and field environments.
  • Ability to travel to other company sites or military installations as required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
