Job description

Director, Surgical Services - Henry Ford Southfield Hospital

Henry Ford Southfield Hospital is searching for a Nursing Director of Surgical Services. This leader will be responsible for providing the overall direction and administration of the inpatient and outpatient Surgical and Endoscopy Services departments across multiple sites to ensure each operates efficiently and effectively. They will regularly review and revise department standards and ensure procedures performed comply with all Hospital and regulatory agency standards. Additionally, they will develop and implement programs within department based on needs assessment.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of overall nursing and surgical nursing skills, theories, and practices as normally acquired through completion of a nursing program.
  • Perioperative nursing expertise and knowledge of management practices and theories at a level normally acquired through completion of a master’s degree in nursing, business, or closely related field.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan required.
  • Approximately five to seven years progressively more responsible nursing experience, with at least two years in a supervisory role, to gain comprehensive knowledge of nursing services policies and operations as well as the ability to organize and direct work of technical and support staff.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership to departmental personnel, negotiate with vendors and to develop and maintain a wide variety of internal and external cooperative working relationships.
  • Analytical skills necessary to plan, develop, and administer department budgets, to evaluate and maintain standards of quality and safety, and to resolve complex technical and administrative problems encountered in the operation of a surgical services department.
