Job description

JOB SUMMARY
  • The Certified Surgical Tech - First Assistant assists in the provision of patient care based on the nursing process and in compliance with the policies, protocols, and procedures of Hendrick Health. They are accountable for maintaining and improving their own nursing knowledge and skills. They show proficiency in the organizational and technical skills involved in the surgical setting and assists on all types of surgical procedures under the supervision of a Surgeon and RN Circulator. Sets-up, maintains, and works from sterile areas. Assists in set-up and clean-up of operating rooms. Helps in all related functions that are relevant to the care of our patients and surgeons in accordance with appropriate laws and regulations. Demonstrates patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in meeting age-related and handicapped patient needs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum Education
    • Certified Surgical Tech - First Assistants graduate from surgical assisting programs accredited through ARCST, a collaborative effort of AST, ACS, and SASA, by CAAHEP
  • Minimum Work Experience
    • At least one year of surgery experience
  • Required Licenses/Certifications
    • First Assistant Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); or First Assistant Certification from the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA); or Assistant at Surgery from the National Assistant at Surgery Council, Inc
    • BLS
  • Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
    • Knowledge of anatomy
    • Ability to manipulate surgical instruments and equipment
    • Competent use of aseptic technique
    • Requires excellent interpersonal skills
