Job Title: Welder Helper I
Reports To: Welder and Fabricator III

Location: Brewton, AL

Pay Rate: $14.50 to $17.00

Welder Helper I Responsibilities

The welding helper/laborer position is a team entry level member who is responsible for helper duties in the welding department. Welder Helpers will be grinding, deburring, cutting scrap metal, and prepping for welders. The Welder Helper I will report to the Welder and Fabricator III.

  • Assist welders and fabricators with material preparation for welding operations
  • Remove mill scale, paint, residue and rust from product to ensure clean surfaces.
  • Prepare surfaces for welding, including grinding, deburring and cutting.
  • Self-inspect products before and after weld preparation for quality standards.
  • Transport and position materials for welding, using hoists or manual handling.
  • Hold or secure parts during welding and fabrication process.
  • Deburr and grind materials
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocol
  • Clean and maintain welding tools, machinery, and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Welder and Fabricator III

Qualifications

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Able to read and interpret work instructions
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English
  • Perform Math skills in standard and metric measurements
  • Able to accurately read/use a tape measure, calipers and micrometers
  • Basic computer skills
  • Passion for doing a job well
  • A “self-motivated” team player
  • Able to work effectively in South Alabama climate conditions
  • Able to stand for long periods of time, crawl, squat, and climb without tiring easily
  • Able to lift 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations
  • Must pass a background check and drug test
