Summary
The Psychometrist administers and scores standardized neuropsychological tests under supervision of licensed neuropsychologist to assist in the evaluation of patient's cognitive function. Provides detailed behavioral observations of patients and provides timely and accurate test results to neuropsychologists. Attends psychometrist and department meetings to discuss clinical issues and to stay current on new developments in psychological testing. Requires the ability to learn and use multiple computerized test scoring programs.
Job Description
Attendance is critical in order to meet testing schedule and attend to patient needs. Testing schedules are rigorous and require between 2 and 7 hours of one on one patient interaction per day. The Psychometrist tests people of all ages and requires multicultural awareness and sensitivity. Must have knowledge of the techniques and the ability to establish good rapport with patients and engender cooperation during testing session. Patients requiring testing have a wide range of conditions, including traumatic brain injury, dementia, stroke, movement disorders, and epilepsy. There is structured on the job training that consists of observing, studying, and practicing each test to achieve proficiency before tests can be administered independently. Initial training can last 3-6 months and continues with quality assurance which includes thorough review of completed work to maintain consistency and standardization. Continued training occurs with revised tests or new tests.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field required.
Experience or training in standardized neuropsychological testing is desirable. Psychometrists have general knowledge of common neuropsychological disorders, associated behaviors a patient might display, and the ability to objectively document those behaviors.
Certified Specialist in Psychometry preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within one year of hire.
