DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:

We have a strong reputation and extensive network of customer relationships and have consistently provided new, cutting-edge product innovations.

DUTIES & SCOPE:

  • Splice, maintain and terminate all types of medium-voltage power cables (5000-35,000 volts).
  • Pull, rack and secure high voltage cables in manholes, conduit, tunnels and vaults.
  • Install, troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment required for underground distribution systems.
  • Bend, install, maintain and repair all types of conduit.
  • Work with distribution system maps and feeder maps, cut sheets to perform switching and tagging for power dispatches to de-energize underground conductors.
  • Perform medium voltage, direct current tests on power cables and equipment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with current logbooks in 5K,15K,25K,35K splicing.
  • The responsibilities listed above are the primary responsibilities and considered to be most important. All the duties and responsibilities of the MV Cable Splicer may not be listed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves always), respirator when required. 
  • Able to work 8-10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime, and night shifts as required.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, including crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of electrical theory, principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to job duties and when working with electrical systems
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures related to job duties.
  • Skill in applying the techniques and principles of the electrical theory and electricity
  • Skill in installing conduit and pull underground cable
  • Skill in applying safety procedures including emergency procedures
  • Skill in identifying and locating cable
  • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprint and schematic drawings
  • Skill in using specialized tools associated with cable splicing responsibilities
