Job description

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Refuse Mechanic to join our service team. This role is responsible for providing on-site diagnostics, repair, and maintenance for refuse collection vehicles (front loaders, rear loaders, side loaders, and roll-off trucks) throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The ideal candidate has strong experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and heavy-duty truck repairs, and thrives working independently in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on refuse collection vehicles at customer sites.
- Service hydraulic systems, electrical systems, compaction equipment, and lifting arms.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, including inspections, adjustments, and component replacements.
- Operate service truck equipped with tools and parts to complete field repairs.
- Document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations.
- Communicate effectively with customers to explain issues, timelines, and solutions.
- Ensure safety standards are followed at all times when working on heavy equipment.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a diesel, heavy-duty, or refuse truck mechanic (field/mobile experience
preferred).
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems used in refuse trucks.
- Familiarity with McNeilus, Heil, Labrie, or similar refuse bodies a strong plus.
- Ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty truck systems with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in outdoor environments year-round.
- Own tools required; company provides specialized tools and service truck.
