PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Create a safe and inclusive learning environment by interacting effectively with all students and responding appropriately to the unique needs of each student. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
ASSIGNMENT:
187-day assignment
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Highly qualified status in all subject areas assigned
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices
Strong knowledge of internet and web-related technology
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior using a variety of applications and platforms
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to develop relationships and maintain consistent contact with students, parents, and colleagues
Ability to support students with basic device setup, navigation, and technology issues
Experience:
Student teaching or approved internship
Alternatives to the above, as the District finds appropriate
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies
  1. Develop and implement lesson plans for learning that fulfill the requirements of the District's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.

  1. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.

  1. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

  1. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment for learning that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

  1. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

  1. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

  1. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

  1. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).

  1. Use appropriate integrated technology to strengthen the learning process.

Student Growth and Development
  1. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

  1. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing utilizing a variety of technology tools.

  1. Provide ongoing feedback of student achievement through formal and informal methods.

  1. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.

Classroom Management and Organization
  1. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

  1. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

  1. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  1. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication
  1. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to communicate with students, parents, and district personnel including supervisor and colleagues.

  1. Establish and maintain open communication with students and parents and a regular basis by phone, email, video conference, or district-approved platform.

  1. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

  1. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development
  1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

  1. Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers, including but not limited to HEB ISD District Expectations for Maintaining Professional Relationships with Students.

  1. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

  1. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
