THE OPPORTUNITY
Louisiana Cat is seeking a Heavy Equipment Service Instructor to support the development of heavy equipment service technicians. This role is responsible for delivering hands-on and classroom-based technical training focused on Caterpillar construction and earthmoving equipment, machine systems, and related technologies. The instructor will help technicians develop the knowledge and skills needed to safely diagnose, maintain, and repair Caterpillar machines while reinforcing best practices in safety, equipment operation, and service procedures. This role also supports technician career progression through Louisiana Cat's competency-based training framework. This position will be based out of our New Iberia location.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION
  • Deliver instructor-led training on Caterpillar construction and earthmoving equipment, machine systems, and related technologies
  • Facilitate both classroom instruction and hands-on shop training
  • Teach engine diagnostics, fuel systems, cooling systems, A/C systems, electronic controls/ troubleshooting, and powertrain.
  • Provide instruction on best safety practices, including job hazard analysis and safe work procedures
  • Support technician onboarding and skill development pathways
  • Evaluate technician performance through practical assessments and knowledge checks
  • Maintain training materials, aids, and shop equipment used for instruction
  • Work closely with service managers to identify skill gaps and training priorities
  • Promote a strong safety culture and professional work standards

MOST IMPORTANT QUALIFICATIONS
  • REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • REQUIRED: Extensive experience working on heavy equipment
  • REQUIRED: Strong understanding of powertrain, fuel, A/C, cooling, lubrication systems, electronic engine controls and diagnostics
  • REQUIRED: Proven troubleshooting and repair experience in heavy equipment environments
  • REQUIRED: Avility to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data
  • REQUIRED: Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • REQUIRED: Comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading hands-on training
  • REQUIRED: Proficient with computer systems for documentation and training tools
  • REQUIRED: Must have a valid driver's license with clean Motor Vehicle record
  • PREFERRED: Prior instructor or lead technician experience
  • PREFERRED: Familiarity with Caterpillar SIS, CAT ET, and diagnostic software
