Job description

Description The Dougherty County Solid Waste department is hiring for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Manager. The purpose of this position is to perform skilled tasks related to heavy equipment management and maintenance including preventive maintenance program development and training. This position is also responsible for managing the heavy equipment mechanic.

This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks. Essential Tasks Supervises related equipment maintenance personnel. Oversees and perform maintenance and preventive maintenance on all light, medium, and heavy equipment.

Purchases and inventory materials such as parts, supplies, fuel, and oil; inspects and restores equipment fluid levels, including fuel, water, hydraulic, and transmission fluid; monitors and verifies operational gauges; checks tires and pressures; lubricates equipment as needed; cleans assigned equipment and parts as required. Maintains equipment repair and maintenance records. Coordinates equipment, warranty claims and outside repairs.

Prepares equipment repair and replacement recommendations. Operates heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. Performs daily preventive maintenance inspections on assigned equipment and communicates findings to Department Manager or maintenance staff.

Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year vocational/technical school degree.

Minimum of two (2) years of experience involving the maintenance of medium and heavy equipment Supplemental Information Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a dump truck, front-end loader, tractor, backhoe, boring machine, small truck, jackhammer, gas-powered saw, mechanic tools, power tools, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, mover or carry objects or materials.

Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing, pulling, grasping, and raising objects and also involves exerting between 50 to 100 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and/or up to 50 to 100 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of heavy work. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to: o Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. o Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. o Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.

Special Certifications And Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
