Director of Operations (Behavioral Health)

Confidential Leadership Opportunity

A growing behavioral healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day operations of an outpatient addiction treatment program.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring operational excellence, supporting clinical teams, driving census growth, developing staff, and creating an exceptional patient experience from admission through discharge.

The ideal candidate is an operational leader who thrives in fast-paced treatment environments, enjoys mentoring teams, and leads by example.

Position Overview

The Director of Operations will oversee the daily administrative and operational functions of the facility while partnering closely with clinical leadership to ensure efficient operations, exceptional patient care, and a culture of accountability.

This individual will play a critical role in admissions, staff leadership, referral development, operational performance, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of a busy outpatient behavioral health program

  • Ensure operational efficiency across all departments

  • Develop and implement processes that improve workflow, patient experience, and overall performance

  • Monitor key operational metrics, attendance, and census trends

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and mentor staff

  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance management, and accountability

  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered workplace culture

  • Lead by example with a visible, hands-on management style

Admissions & Patient Experience

  • Support and oversee the admissions process to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience

  • Assist with patient intake activities as needed

  • Address patient concerns promptly and professionally

  • Ensure continuity of care through effective communication across departments

Business Development & Community Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with referral partners, healthcare providers, and community organizations

  • Represent the organization professionally within the local behavioral healthcare community

  • Collaborate with leadership on initiatives that support sustainable census growth

Operational Excellence

  • Partner with executive leadership to establish goals and improve organizational performance

  • Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and operational support throughout the day

  • Provide leadership support during evening programming or operational needs when necessary

  • Promote a culture focused on urgency, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional service

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (equivalent leadership experience will be considered)

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in behavioral health, addiction treatment, or healthcare operations

  • Previous operations management or director-level experience required

  • Strong understanding of outpatient behavioral healthcare operations

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Addiction treatment experience strongly preferred

  • Experience overseeing admissions and operational workflows
