Job description

Who We Are

FTI Consulting is the leading global expert firm for organizations facing crisis and transformation. We work with many of the world's top multinational corporations, law firms, banks and private equity firms on their most important issues to deliver impact that makes a difference. From resolving disputes, navigating crises, managing risk and optimizing performance, our teams respond rapidly to dynamic and complex situations.
At FTI Consulting, you'll work side-by side with leaders who have shaped history, helping solve the biggest challenges making headlines today. From day one, you'll be an integral part of a focused team where you can make a real impact. You'll be surrounded by an open, collaborative culture that embraces diversity, recognition, professional development and, most importantly, you.
Are you ready to make your impact?

About the Role

The Director, Financial Optimization leads client engagements that strengthen the financial performance of hospitals, health systems, and physician groups. This is a delivery leadership role grounded in healthcare finance, spanning financial planning and analysis, cost and margin improvement, and revenue performance. The Director owns engagements end to end, serves as a senior point of contact for client finance leadership, and is accountable for the quality and measurable impact of the team's work. The Director also manages and develops high-performing teams and partners with FTI leadership to deliver sustainable results for clients.

What You'll Do

  • Lead client engagements focused on healthcare financial performance, including financial planning and analysis (FP&A), cost and margin improvement, and revenue performance.

  • Own engagement delivery end to end, managing scope, timeline, budget, and quality, and at times serving as the senior client-facing lead with client finance leadership.

  • Direct financial analysis and modeling to size opportunities and quantify impact across revenue, cost, and margin.

  • Assess and improve core finance functions, including the general ledger, chart of accounts, close and consolidation, budgeting, and FP&A reporting.

  • Build and review financial models, forecasts, budgets, and management reporting, including dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.

  • Translate findings into executive-ready recommendations and lead presentations to CFOs and other leaders.

  • Manage, coach, and develop engagement teams (Senior Consultants and Consultants), providing feedback and supporting their growth.

  • Contribute to the practice through methodologies, tools, and points of view that strengthen how FTI serves healthcare finance clients.

  • Stay current on healthcare finance trends, including reimbursement pressure, cost structure dynamics, and physician enterprise economics.

How You'll Grow

The Director partners with Senior Directors, Managing Directors, and Senior Managing Directors to lead client engagements and ensure their success. You will be accountable for developing Senior Consultants and Consultants and for delivering high-quality work products across concurrent engagements.

We are committed to empowering you to make your own impact. Helping you realize your potential and be fulfilled in your work is the best way to ensure success, for you, for FTI Consulting, and for our clients. Throughout your career, we promote continuous learning through our Learning and Development platform, cross segment training, and individual skills development through your relationship with your coach, both on the job and in the classroom. From on-the-job learning experiences to formal development programs at FTI University, our professionals have a variety of opportunities to continue to grow throughout their careers. Active participation in national association membership and conferences is also encouraged.

What You Will Need To Succeed

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative field.

  • 7+ years of relevant post-graduate professional experience in healthcare finance, in consulting or a provider finance role.

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare finance, including familiarity with accounting and transactional finance functions.

  • Prior experience managing or leading a team.

  • Physician group and/or hospital-based finance experience.

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.

  • Familiarity with ERP systems, general ledgers, and budgeting or planning systems.

  • Ability to travel to client sites and FTI offices as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.

  • Experience across healthcare financial domains, including FP&A, budgeting and forecasting, accounting, and revenue performance.

  • Prior consulting or advisory experience.
