Job Summary

The Supervisor, Health Information Management oversees and coordinates Health Information Management and revenue cycle operations across clinical, physician, and hospital settings to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant health information and reimbursement processes. This role provides leadership and operational oversight for deficiency management, patient identity, data integrity, release of information, vital records, HIM operations, vendor performance, Epic workflow optimization, staff supervision, and data-driven performance improvement.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

HIM Operational Oversight

  • Oversee daily HIM and revenue cycle operations across clinical, physician, and hospital specialties.
  • Direct execution of deficiency management, patient identity, data integrity, release of information, vital records, and HIM operations.
  • Monitor compliance, accuracy, timeliness, and operational effectiveness to support reimbursement, patient care, and regulatory requirements.

Performance Monitoring, Analytics, and Reporting

  • Analyze HIM productivity, quality, and compliance metrics.
  • Review record content to identify data integrity trends and documentation risks.
  • Monitor dashboards, KPIs, SLAs, and performance benchmarks and prepare performance reports for leadership.

Workforce Supervision, Training, and Development

  • Supervise HIM staff, including productivity monitoring, performance coaching, corrective action when necessary, hiring, onboarding, and training.
  • Provide ongoing education and competency support to maintain a skilled and accountable workforce.

Resource Alignment and Workflow Optimization

  • Coordinate and align staff, resources, and vendors across clinical, physician, and hospital areas.
  • Standardize workflows to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Evaluate resource utilization and provide recommendations to optimize staffing and operational design.

Vendor Management and Quality Auditing

  • Oversee vendor quality audits, SLA compliance, and performance metrics.
  • Monitor vendor dashboards and reports and address quality and productivity variances through corrective action.

Epic Optimization, Special Projects, and Subject Matter Expertise

  • Support Epic workflow performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects related to HIM.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and share results with leaders as needed to support best practices.

Additional Duties as Assigned

  • Employee will perform additional duties as assigned, within scope, as defined and requested by leadership.

Travel

  • Travel 10% to 25% may be required.

Work Type

  • Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working in the office.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in healthcare, Health Information Management, revenue cycle, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required)

  • Epic experience.
  • OnBase experience.
  • Knowledge of HIM and revenue cycle operations across clinical, physician, and hospital settings.
  • Ability to supervise staff, monitor productivity, coach performance, and support training.
  • Ability to analyze productivity, quality, compliance, KPI, SLA, and performance data.
  • Knowledge of deficiency management, patient identity, data integrity, release of information, vital records, and HIM operations.
  • Vendor management, quality auditing, workflow optimization, and reporting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or a related field.
  • Experience 6+ years of experience in HIM supervision, revenue cycle operations, vendor management, and Epic workflow optimization.
  • Previous leadership experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Preferred)

  • Professional certification in revenue cycle, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS, CEHRS, or CHDA preferred.
  • Epic EMR experience, Epic certification, or Epic proficiency preferred.
  • Experience with vendor SLA monitoring, quality audits, and performance dashboard reporting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Light): Duties require little or no exertion of physical effort; little to no standing, walking, lifting, carrying, or pushing; occasional sitting; close eye work including computers, typing, reading, and writing. Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks. Exposures may include, but are not limited to: blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, and shift work. Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment may be required depending on work area and tasks.
