Overview of current developments, issues and challenges in the emerging field of health informatics, with an emphasis on the role it plays in health care transformation initiatives. Foundation of health informatics. How data are acquired, turned into information and translated into knowledge. How healthcare information systems are designed. How different systems such as clinical decision support, electronic health records, and public health systems function. Critical issues related to security, privacy, ethical and legal underpinnings.Overview of information systems used in Canada and in Qatar.

Must have an MBA/MHA or Master's degree (PhD preferred) in an area directly related to the health informatics and technology management in a health care context. Must also demonstrate recent professional experience in the field and sound knowledge of the issues related to the area of the course. This course is delivered primarily asynchronously, therefore experience in development or delivery of online course content would be considered an asset.
