Level II: $2,554.02 - $2,815.81 bi-weekly
*Current County employees may be eligible for a higher step placement per the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The County of Del Norte Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Branch, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Health Education Coordinator I/II. This position is classified as full-time.
Under general direction from the Health Division Program Manager or designee performs on-site tasks associated with program coordination and supervision of assigned staff; performs administrative and analytical work related to state and federal funding. This position requires administrative level experience associated with a wide variety of responsible functions without direct supervision except as new or unusual circumstances require.
Detailed Work Activities
Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

• Coordinates the County Health Education Program and activities.
• Develops and executes short and long term goals associated with the health education program.
• Assures compliance with all applicable state and federal guidelines as they relate to the operation of health education programs.
• Administers the program by performing tasks such as research, analysis, report writing, staff scheduling, etc.
• Represents the program at various local and regional meetings involving matters pertinent to health education services.
• Determines the resources necessary to ensure appropriate and effective services.
• Performs additional administrative duties as may be assigned or required.
• Monitors programs for evaluation purposes and provides administrative support for ongoing quality assurance.
• Collects, analyzes and maintains program data for the preparation and updating of various program operational reports as necessary for compliance with state, federal and/or departmental guidelines.
• Plans, organizes and coordinates the work of assigned staff including conducting yearly performance evaluation, providing training on an ongoing basis, approving staff requests for time off and schedule changes, etc.
• Provides direct services and/or schedule coverage for client services as needed.
• Works in conjunction with departmental staff in the preparation and presentation of various community workshops regarding health education services.
• Participates and assists in the planning, development and implementation of a school and community based health education program.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education, training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Level I:
Education: Equivalent to graduation with a high school diploma supplemented with college coursework in public health, education or a closely related field.
Experience: Four (4) years of experience in a health education or disease prevention program.
Level II:
Education: A Bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science, public health, education or closely related field is preferred.
Experience: Six years of experience with a minimum of two years as Health Education Coordinator I with increasing lead staff duties, quality improvement and program tracking, annual work plan writing, and grant funding writing.
Desired Qualifications: A master's degree in behavioral or social science, public health, education or closely related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge Of:

• Relevant legislation in health education programs.
• Current principles, practices, methods and techniques in the field of health education.
• Budget and statistical methods and analysis of program effectiveness and efficiency.
• Business computer applications, particularly as relating to statistical analysis, recordkeeping and report writing.
• Grant sources, development and acquisition theories, writing techniques and administration.
• Effective public presentations which includes both oral and visual aids.

Ability To:

• Plan, organize and supervise assigned programs and staff.
• Interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies and administer department procedures and regulations.
• Develop, monitor and coordinate program goals and activities.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff, health education professionals, clients, community groups and the general public.
• Work weekends, holidays and irregular hours.

Special Requirements
Possession of a valid and current California Driver's license at the time of appointment or equivalent if a resident of Oregon.
All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State las (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Typical Working Conditions
Work is generally performed in an office environment under both quiet and noisy conditions; continuous contact with general public, departmental and County staff, management, individuals and other outside organizations. Travel within Del Norte County and the State of California is required if necessary and job related; may occasionally perform field work at other office locations or local schools if necessary and job related.

Selection Process:

ELIGIBILITY:
Regular Permanent Full-Time Employees: Eligible for a comprehensive range of benefits

Paid annual leave:
Vacation:
