Job description

Your Story.
The Category Insights Manager plays a vital role in delivering strategic insights, solutions, and analytics to support category management efforts for key Consumer Products customers. This role will support our Strat Channels Team which includes the Club (Costco, Sam's BJ's), Drug (Walgreens, CVS), Convenience (7-11, Circle K, etc.) and Dollar (Aldi, Dollar General, etc.) National Channels of trade.
This position strengthens customer planning, sales execution, and financial performance for the Consumer Products Business Unit sales team by leading Category/Business Reviews, Top-to-Top and Joint Business Planning sessions, bi-annual innovation reviews, omnichannel strategy integration, and new product presentations in collaboration with the Sales teams.

What You Do.
  • Responsible for analyzing customer-specific information, including Circana syndicated data, internal Sargento data, and other loyalty data to measure category and brand effectiveness and subsequently provide recommendations for improving customer category and brand growth and profitability.
  • Works closely with the Sales teams by providing analytical support for the following sales related activities:
    • Assists in developing annual category management information budget and makes appropriate recommendations for future resource needs
    • On-going sales trend tracking and evaluation
    • Customer business planning
    • Category reviews
    • Assortment optimization
    • Evaluating pricing and promotion effectiveness
    • New distribution and space management initiatives
    • Monitoring competitive activity
    • Demand planning
    • Special projects and information requests as they arise
  • Responsible for analyzing customer-specific information, including Nielsen or Circana syndicated data, internal Sargento data, to measure category and brand effectiveness and subsequently provide recommendations for growing sales, distribution, and customer profitability.
  • Support joint strategic planning with executive leadership for Sargento and customer by elevating connectivity with senior leadership through the development of Top-to-Top meetings.
  • Supports eCommerce data analysis to identify trends and opportunities
  • Category Captaincy leadership with agency partners; collaborates closely with customer buying team throughout process including final Planogram execution
  • Develops and maintains category management tools and information while working with the category management team and leveraging the marketing and insights teams
  • Works with the Sales Team to identify analytical support needs by initiating processes and disciplines to ensure agency analytical services are proactive and maintained
  • Supports trade management efforts for improved accuracy by providing sales analysis that facilitates pricing and promotional efficiency
  • Develops sound customer relationships that provide an opportunity for Sargento to participate in or lead category management reviews including assortment optimization for all assigned customers
  • Trains and develops skill sets of agency analyst to meet Sargento demands for best-in-class category management practices

Your Education and Experience.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university
  • Five plus years CPG industry experience.
  • Prior Category Management experience, and/or Club Channel experience preferred.
  • Planogram analysis preferred
  • Proficiency in Luminate, Nielsen, and/or Circana databases required.
  • Experience with leveraging insights to drive influence is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
