BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE MAGNET SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTY OF MIDDLESEX
NOTICE OF OPENING

2026-2027

HEAD CUSTODIAN 
Edison Academy Magnet School


Brief Description:
The Board of Education of Middlesex County Magnet Schools is currently accepting applications for the Head Custodian position for the 2026-2027 school year.
The successful candidate will be expected to obtain a Boiler-Fireman Low-Pressure (Black Seal) License within one year of employment.


The Head Custodian position will receive an annual $3,500 differential over the respective custodial guide's salary. 


 

Responsibilities:

  1. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the school each day.
  2. Supervises all custodians under their authority.
  3. To oversee the custodial operations of individual school facilities and ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable school environment; to carry out tasks required to maintain and operate the building to the required standards.
  4. Schedules daily tasks, supervises the work of custodians, and participates in daily cleaning of facilities.
  5. Monitors and regulates HVAC systems to maintain appropriate seasonal temperatures and ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity.
  6. Participates in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of the custodial staff.
  7. Maintains inventory and recommends purchasing supplies, tools, equipment, and fuel.
  8. Monitors the time records of all custodians in the school and certifies them for salary payment.
  9. Provides the Director of Facilities and/or the Custodial Supervisor with an evaluation of custodians' performance in accordance with board policy.
  10. Completes custodial reports, building condition reports, and other records as required.
  11. Ensures that all fire/safety and environmental laws and regulations relating to building maintenance and operation are enforced.
  12. Plans and monitors the school's shipping and receiving function.
  13. Ensure that hazardous materials are properly handled, stored, and disposed of.
  14. Assumes all performance responsibilities of the custodian job description.
  15. Create schedules for custodians that align with the building's needs, including cleaning and work order requests.
  16. Oversee the completion of monthly fire-extinguisher requirements and mark them on the appropriate labels.
  17. Ensure daily, consistent Boiler Room Inspections are completed to ensure proper boiler operation.
  18. Performs any duties and responsibilities within the scope of employment as assigned by the Building Principal/Director of Facilities/Custodial Supervisor. 

Salary Range:
$44,309 $66,509 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and professional credentials.
