Job description

Head Start Teachers Needed!

General Description: Under the administrative direction of the Head Start Education/Early Childhood Services Manager and under the direct supervision of the Site Coordinator, the classroom Teacher has major responsibility for all classroom operations including, planning, carry out activities, maintaining the classroom environment, supervising children, parent/teacher conferences, and supervision of classroom volunteers and teacher assistant.

Educational Qualifications: Minimum of an associate’s degree in child development or early childhood education, equivalent coursework, or an associate degree in a related field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children.

Salary: $47,000/Per Year

Full Time: 10 Month

Experience Qualifications: Minimum of three years' experience working with preschool aged children and families.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to write reports and correspondence, and read and interpret documents
  • Knowledge of various software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power-Point, and Publisher. ChildPlus software or equivalent a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate with community members and groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families both individually and in group settings for program enhancement needs.
  • Ability to mentor staff on child development, on-going assessment process, and best practices
  • Ability to organize and manage time effectively

Essential Responsibilities and Performance Indicators:

  • Responsible for Lesson Planning, Maintaining Classroom Environment, Supervising Children and providing guidance and direction to meet the individual needs of children.
  • Manage classroom operations; provide supervision, guidance, coaching and evaluation of Teacher Assistants and classroom volunteers according to program schedule, policies and procedures.
  • Plan and provide a comprehensive program including implementation of HS curriculum, and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Work in a team setting with all staff to determine individual needs of children. Design and implement plans that will expose children to meaningful experiences. Participate in curriculum development and recommend necessary changes.
  • Consult regularly with parents and appropriate service providers, consultants, and staff regarding child developmental concerns. Facilitate Parent/Teacher Conferences.
  • Conduct two home visits and two parent/teacher conferences with each child’s family per year, according to program schedule, policies and procedures.
  • Greet parents and children pleasantly and appropriately, ensuring a smooth transition into the classroom, a positive home-classroom connection and a family partnership.
  • Maintain ongoing professional and appropriate communication with parents. Provide activities parents can do at home with their children to support the curriculum and the child’s learning. Encourage parents to become involved in workshops, training and other Head Start activities.
  • Plan and participate in monthly classroom Parent Meetings with Family Advocate and parents.
  • Monitor the maintenance of accurate child attendance records, USDA food records/reports, in-kind reports and other record keeping and reports as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case management meetings, and In-Service training. Plan and participate in classroom (child) graduation.
  • Work closely with Education Coordinator in designing a training plan for Teacher Assistants.
  • Continue professional growth by participating in ongoing; ECE education, training programs, and workshops/conference, as budget allows.
