This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

Tuesday

to Saturday, 9:15 am to 6:15 pm

LOCATION:

1251 Muldoon Road

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Starting pay does not exceed the midpoint of the displayed pay range.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

Under supervision of the Branch and Community Services Coordinator, this position is responsible for the efficient operation of a branch library location: hire, train, schedule and supervise the professional and paraprofessional library branch team; encourage staff development and innovation; plan and evaluate library programs and services; provide research assistance, and customer service; select and evaluate materials; make library space and collection welcoming and accessible to all ages; interpret and ensure compliance of policy and procedure; effectively communicate with respect and courtesy to resolve patron and personnel issues; pursue opportunities for connecting the community and library through outreach and partnerships, including building volunteer support; conduct community assessment to determine needs; monitor library budget; perform administrative record keeping and recording. Under guidance from the Branch and Community Services Coordinator, develop, promote, publicize, implement, and evaluate programs, services, special events, and outreach efforts to stimulate use of the library and library resources. Establish and maintain effective relations with co-workers, the public, and vendors.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited school and one (1) year of library experience at the supervisory level or working in a technical specialty.

A Valid State of Alaska Driverโ€™s License at time of hire.

Employment is conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).

Per Municipal Code 3.30.024.D Personal suitability qualifications commonly required by any employee occupying a position in any class, such as good character, loyalty, honesty, demeanor, industry, amenability to supervision, and willingness to cooperate with associates shall be qualifications required for each position.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from the date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individualโ€™s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
